Thanks to you OnTheClock ! Your post seems to sum it up pretty well for many of us.
i would particularly point Kyle Shanahan for this loss.
why ? Because he took decisions that ultimately hurt this team,
And BTW it doesn't help when you see how well prepared was our defense that almost won it for us with 2nd and 3rd stringers...
Here is the misjudgements i pointed :
- passing scheme : Jimmy G plays at his best when he can zip the ball quickly on short routes and doesn't overthink too much when pressured (that is why i think his signature game remains the win vs the jaguars), otherwise his throwing mechanics make me very nervous because it's flawed and that is the thoughest thing to correct for a QB. It was critical that KS used these as he was constantly pressured. Of course it doesn't help that most of our WR cannot separate or worse drop the ball... And maybe it's me but i didnt see enough play action passes
- running scheme : those linemen are best when they move not when they have to move people. As a group, they're just not physical enough. so when you call repeatedly during the game and during our last drive TWO RUNS up the middle (where we were constantly stopped during the game) on 2nd & 3nd down with 2 yards to go, you find yourself asking a kicker signed of the streets to make a second pressured kick in a row. For me that is all on KS and NOT on the kicker. Hey the guy was 3/3 in regulation ! Kudos to him he made us stay in the game
- were staley and McG really fit ? They didnt pass the test from the first drive to the last. Disappointing KS didn't do anything about it scheme wise. Well he tried by keeping his RB behing the line to clean both tackle mistakes but it wasn't efficient
- HC game decision : as much as i can understand they sit on the ball at the end of the first half, it puzzles me he didnt run on 2nd down with 1:40 left in OT the seacows had no TO left. A tie was way better than a loss.
so very disappointed with Kyle but i think he'll learn and we'll be better come playoffs time
i said particularly but i must also mention Jimmy G. I am worried. The pattern is : he misses way too many easy throws, he throws dumbed balls to WR that have NO separation (almost) leading to INT's and he cannot make a difference between situation where he must protect the ball and take the sack, or throw it out of bounds (leading to fumbles).
finally, if we want to win the SB we must stay healthy certainly on offense as i dont trust Jimmy G to lead us. He'll mess it up à la Matt Ryan...
