We were not ready for prime time players.

Well that's not true, ya'll are acting like we got killed yet it took them to the last sec of OT to win.

SF was so depleted of talent that it just wasn't gonna happen. Our OTs weren't ready to play and should have sat one more week IMO. No kittle/Sanders and a kicker off the streets? Gould makes that kick and it's ball game.

We have issues, but in no way are we not ready for prime time players. Wilson was sacked 5x, had a INT & Fumble, and had his 2nd worst QBrating of the yr (their loss to Baltimore was the worst).

I guess I meant the Staley and McGlinchey show - they totally didn't show up.

That's better.
As Aaron Rodgers once said "Relax". The defense did a very good job especially with the points the offense gave or set up short drives. Clowney was as dominant as I remember seeing him. I think the back up tackles may have faired better. As far as I'm concerned Goodwin and Pettis don't need to be on the team next year. Seattle's offense was nothing special. Their TE was never accounted for. One thing Seattle is great at finding over the years are players that catch the ball. All things considered a narrowly made field goal at the end of overtime isn't that bad with a Vanderjactian miss by a rookie kicker that will be gone any day now.

Goodwin sadly has too much life drama getting in the way. Pettis doesn't try hard on less than perfect passes. The receiving core is rightly ripped, but Jimmy is way too high on many passes. When it was 10-0 I thought the running game would wear down Seattle and it would turn into a blowout.

Credit to Seattles defense which hasn't looked close to this good all season. If the Niners can play this poorly on offense and lose in a 70 minute game by a field goal I'm confident they are a legitimate contender. Lastly, now they can focus after getting the eventual loss out of the way.
was at the game. it was rocking. i still don't have my voice back. very painful loss yes. but we needed to play a good opponent that would test us. we were all hyped for this game cause we knew it would be a battle and it was. sucks we lost but i think its a great experience for the team. let's not forget that jimmy has somewhere around 18 or 19 games under his belt so he's still young experience wise. i don't think he's hit his ceiling yet or anywhere close so a game like this will only teach him what he needs to do to get better and same for kyle. i mean when russ says that the game felt like a nfc championship game that should tell you everything you need to know...when you a real team - one that has been consistently good on offense and defense with a real qb you will get tested by both the qb and the defense. we're a young team and need to grow. i found it admirable that jimmy was able to get us in a position to tie and kick the game winning field goal, i thought kyle did a decent job but think his play calling left something to be desired and certainly ingame adjustments needed some work. all is not lost just a perfect season, of which there has only been one. all i can say is what i've felt for years when watching our 9ers field good teams since the late 80s( when i started out watching football), the 90s, the early 00s, the harbaugh years, and now the shanny/jimmy years...i want to play the best teams cause that's how we will get better and learn how to win. and seriously the poor kid that missed the FG, if he had made it the narrative would have been how jimmy got them in position to win by fg and the defense and etc...so while dying over this i'm starting to feel better...see you guys in Levi's vs the fudge packers.

CUT Gould for this rookie kicker.

LOL

That wide left FG In overtime how do you get a job now with that on your resume

U get a chance by getting a shot and making 3 of 4.. Screw the old Gould, how good has he been this year?

Don't hate the kicker because we lost the game, he should have not been kicking that far if Shanny didn't get too cute.

True, but they gutted it out to play because they wanted to help. Unfortunately, they weren't quite ready. Tough call on that one. But they weren't ready and it hurt us despite them giving us their best.

A loss is a loss, there are no moral victories.

I say again which I have already mentioned in other threads, it is impossible to lose a game with 1:50 left and a fresh set of downs when the game is tied.

At that point, none of the drops, crappy O-line play, turnovers and what not matter, all you need to do is to slow down the game, let your QB and offense regain composure and see whether you could get to FG range again. If not, you simply tie.

The distinction I am trying to make is, you don't play with the intention to tie per se which some people have been complaining about, but rather to play for the win while making sure you don't lose neither should you not make it. That is the difference.

Bottom line is this, we didn't have to lose this game and we can talk about all the issues we had throughout the game, but in the very end, it was Kyle Shanahan who lost us the game.

There are no 2 ways about it, this is an embarrassing and heartbreaking loss.

There is no point in talking about how we didn't have Kittle and Sanders otherwise we should have won, while that may be true, but that is not how we lost this game, as mentioned earlier it was our own head coach which cost us the game.

And people say, ignore the media and let people doubt us, etc, that doesn't change the fact whenever you are confronted with it with what's on TV or more YouTube clips, the idea of not just losing to the Seahawks but to hand over the win on a silver platter in that poor game/clock management fashion immediately emotes pain and anger.

And why wouldn't you feel pain and anger if you are an emotionally invested 49ers fan? Is only human nature, we are not machines.

Even if you want to shove human emotions aside, sure then let's talk reality. Instead of being 2 games ahead, our lead has now been cut to 1/2 game. This is reality!! Our backs are against the wall now. We might not even win NFC West as a result, let alone losing home field advantage with a bye!! That was how costly this loss was!!

Yes, Kyle took the risk and got burned for it. He still gets greedy at bad times and he got burned twice on Monday for it, both you could argue cost us the game.
Kyle isn't perfect but he has brot fun, excitement and RESPECTABILITY back to the 9ers. Yes i wanted him to go for that 4th and 12 inches. But he has been doing stuff all first half of season i never thot possible. In retrospect i bet he wishes a mulligan on this one.

But you know what? Even tho lots of bad happened to us this game, basically injury to Sanders with kittle out and a host of WRs that flat out couldn't catch (9 drops), Gould out with quad , adn worse yet, major injuries taking Blair out for the season , Sanders with bad ribs and DJ Jones out with groin.

Yet despite all that? We came within one missed FG of winning that game where the talent was lopsided due to our growing PUP and IR lists. We came within a heartbeat of winning that game , but for whatever reason Gould had a quadriceps injury and some unknown is kicking.

To me that is mind blowing,...all that bad adn we damn near won anyway. I salute our guys and the guts they played with. I hold my comments re: the 9 drops WRs. They were truly awful.

How Shanahan came so close to winning that game just floors me. I missed his scheming, but with the injury list as it was, it would have been pretty hard to do.

That's exactly it.

And like I said, we better hope and pray the team is not affected by any hangover after such a heartbreaking loss. They need to blow the Cards out of the water at home, if we lose then we will know what's up.

Yes it was. As i said, tough call when you got two OTs out 6 weeks and wanting to do anything they could to get us a win. Obviously, in the retrospectoscope, it was the wrong call. But i can see why kyle okayed it. Those guys wanted to do anything they could to get us the W.

A few days later a better choice looks like starting the guys who were ready to go and had played extremely well the last 6 weeks.

In answer to a posited question prior to the game, "what happens if Joe and McG arent' ready to go?"...i said, "well that would have to be considered at the time." Well it may have gotten considered, but joe and McG played anyway.

Tough call at the time. Even with all the bad that happened, we still win that game if Gould is playing. We missed the W by a FG. Hard to believe , no?

Well, i missed the watching the game as I'm in Thailand,( it's great). But judging from what I've read our team played hard and left it all out there on the field, and with and injury battered line-up still almost pulled off the V......also if " Che-eattle " was stealing our signals then screw them....I think we should get back in win column this week against the Red-birds......
Go Niners
The team has the heart of a champion, but we definitely need to be more consistent playing our best ball in all facets: coaching, offense, defense, STs. Against Carolina we saw what we can do when do that. That's how we'll need to be in the playoffs, assuming we stay on that path.
Is it just me or is Mostert our most effective one cut downhill runner?
this team is 8-1 and fans are having a meltdown over a last sec OT loss....without our best offensive player, best WR, and expecting a kicker off the streets to hit two 40+ clutch FGs

I think the whole defense is "suspect" and hasn't played vs elite QBs can be put to rest...our defense is lights out. We need to get healthy on offense and we will be fine.

This is a playoff squad...let's be happy for once
