SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS vs BALTIMORE RAVENS - Week 13 PREGAME

I know we have done a good job forcing fumbles this year. But I think this game comes down to if we can strip the ball from Lamar. Because we are not gonna be able to just stop their offense like we have to some other teams.

Strip the ball, strip the ball, strip the ball.

Don't let that game last night influence your thinking about how to stop the Baltimore running game. The Ravens were able to attack the edges of Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense because the edge players the Rams employ are pass rushers who are weak against the run game. Dante Fowler and Clay Matthews wouldn't suit up on game day for the 49ers. They are that bad. Greg Roman knew that and just pounded away at them. Samson Ebukam was their only ED with good run defense ability and he got pounded with lead blockers all night because no one else demanded attention. They double-teamed Donald and won most of the other one-on-one battles. Easy pickings.

Try that same edge running attack on AA and Bosa and get ready to have your butt handed to you. Even if they did get past the DL on occasion, the speed of the 49er LBs will catch them.

Going up the middle is no picnic either. They can double Buckner but Jones has been beasting. If center Matt Skura can't go, that makes inside running much tougher.

We don't have to load the box. Spy Jackson with Warner or Greenlaw and the game will look VERY different than the Rams game.

This game will provide a good example of why Lynch insisted on loading up with high-end DL - it makes everything else much easier.
Can't argue there. This is a good week to get a real education on how good our guys are

Strip the ball, strip the ball, strip the ball.

we can not be so obsessed with stripping the ball that we are not tackling. that has been a huge turnaround from the last couple of years

Sherman said we will play anywhere in any condition. We are built for it

It's nearly impossible to really shut down an offense like this when they're on a roll but if you can pressure Jackson enough to throw off his timing and take away his reads then you have a good chance. I know it's not easy but a defense like ours that has multiple disruptors has a better chance than most. He can't just look at one guy since the heat can come from any direction.
This will be a shootout. We just can't let it be the ground game and the middle of the field be where we're beat in the passing game. Muck this thing up make Jackson throw from that pocket. Punish him if he keeps. Then we know we can punish BAL with our own excellent offense where we can dial up explosive plays on the regular. We have to do the imposing and not allow BAL to be imposing on us. We do that and we can win this inevitable shootout

That's kind of what I was trying to say. If we can match them score for score or even get a couple of stops and get the lead we can disrupt that offense. They used to say you couldn't stop Eric Dickerson. All you could do is try and keep him from running wild. Same philosophy here.

I think we should be more concerned about if we will score enough against them. They have a damn good defense too, the best we will have faced to this point. By far. On the road. In an extremely hostile environment. Baltimore has one of the low key best home field advantages there is when they are good. Luckily we have KS but if we make too many mistakes this will be a problem. Can we keep up on offense is what I'm actually more concerned with.

The most points thr Ravens can score at any given time is 7 or 8. Can we do enough on offense to keep pace with that? That's honestly the matchup I'm most excited to see.

We have the best redzone defense in the league. We might give up a big play or two, but it's not going to be easy for them.

I dont think it'll be easy for them, but I think it'll happen. I think we gotta score 30 to win. I think if our D can hold the Ravens under 30 on the road we have to be extremely happy with that.

Like I said, I think our offense against their D is the tougher matchup. I dont think their defense is getting enough credit right now. I think we'll have to be really good on offense to win.

Exactly. The Ravens have the #1 offense and #1 defense over the last 2 months. Even if we slow down their offense a little bit (unlikely, but maybe it'll happen), our offense is going to struggle to move the ball against them. Plus, they're good at baiting QBs into throwing interceptions, and as we've seen, few QBs are easier to bait into throwing a pick than Jimmy.

It's not an either or. We've done a good job of having the second guy coming in and stripping at the ball. That's what we have I do.

And get Kittle the ball. Early and often.
Hit the quarterback. Take a few roughing calls. Keep him in the pocket. Make him pass to win.

Ah how quickly people forget. Long live the legend that was Kaepernick for ~2 years.

You forgot the "and intercept the ball" part.

Unlikely? We have the best defense in the NFL. They're not putting up 500 yards and they will punt in the first half.

Slowing them down is not much of a goal post. Come on people.

I'm planning on diving into Ravens Film later on Thanksgiving(we live in Bama and all our family lives in OR and WA so it's a short, small family thanksgiving for us) and am going to be investigating this supposed Ravens offense. I still remember a lot of the stuff Roman did here so I'm interested to see what's different.

Yes please! Love to know some of the best ways to defend their offense

Hit the QB on every option play.
Just be physical with them. Don't play on your heels. A few good shots with make Lamar think twice about running with the ball.

They're talking about doing this on KNBR right now. I think it's a great idea!
