If they score which they will though not as consistently we can indeed keep the pressure on and score with explosive plays as well. That's our MO. We don't get to play our brand of offense if we let BAL maul us in the ground game. We have to stack the box defensively and make them beat us passing and then win this shootout. That's what it's going to be if we play the way I want us to. A shootout where we keep BAL well under 125 yds total rushing. If we do that we have a chance to win a high scoring game. If they run for 200 we won't have the ball. We'll get beat up and we'll lose. We gotta erase the run game and sell out to do it
Don't let that game last night influence your thinking about how to stop the Baltimore running game. The Ravens were able to attack the edges of Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense because the edge players the Rams employ are pass rushers who are weak against the run game. Dante Fowler and Clay Matthews wouldn't suit up on game day for the 49ers. They are that bad. Greg Roman knew that and just pounded away at them. Samson Ebukam was their only ED with good run defense ability and he got pounded with lead blockers all night because no one else demanded attention. They double-teamed Donald and won most of the other one-on-one battles. Easy pickings.
Try that same edge running attack on AA and Bosa and get ready to have your butt handed to you. Even if they did get past the DL on occasion, the speed of the 49er LBs will catch them.
Going up the middle is no picnic either. They can double Buckner but Jones has been beasting. If center Matt Skura can't go, that makes inside running much tougher.
We don't have to load the box. Spy Jackson with Warner or Greenlaw and the game will look VERY different than the Rams game.
This game will provide a good example of why Lynch insisted on loading up with high-end DL - it makes everything else much easier.

Remember, Carolina's defense was top 5 in every category too. Then comes Jimmy G and the 49ers.

most of the fans here and rightfully so have respect for this team. not fear but respect
John Harbaugh is definitely a better coach than his brother.

The Ravens look like two different teams...the one from the first 6 weeks of the season and the one from the last 5.
From the Seattle game on, they have outscored opponents 202-62, averaging 40.4 points a game while surrendering only 12.4 points a game. We knew this would be the toughest test when projecting forward a few weeks ago, but its tough to argue that they aren't playing the best football in the NFL right now. Is the wide 9 the right approach to stopping their run attack?

Dude was just taking off when he felt the slightest pressure.
I think the Niners should try to shutdown the run and have Lamar try and beat us in the air. Now their defense is playing lights out as well so Jimmy and company have a tuff game ahead.
Honestly the only reason I care about this win is because(well it's a win) but mainly because as soon as we lose we drop to #2 in the division and have to hope that Vikings beat Seattle monday night.
Losing that Seattle game was killer for us in terms of room for error. Yes we play them in week 17 so if we lose to Baltimore and then win out we get #1 seed back and win the division but having .5 game lead on Seattle sucks. We have to keep winning and hoping Seattle starts to lose some of these games so the room for error(which hopefully is something we don't have to worry about) ends up giving us the division and the bye week for the playoffs.
It's super frustrating knowing that 1 game could see us drop from #1 seed in the NFC to the #5 seed. We control our own destiny so have to get these Ws and not worry about Seattle.
But really if you told me we HAD to lose one more game this year then this is absolutely the game to do that. 0 impact on NFC playoff picture in terms of tie breakers.

last night on several occasions the defensive tackles lost their Gap integrity and It left a big hole up the middle for Lamar to escape through that's the one thing our defensive tackles cannot do they can't get pushed outside they have to keep the center of the pocket collapsing and tight.

But even looking through rose-colored glasses, it's still difficult to see us winning this game.
dude you say the same pessimistic crap every week. You're the opposite of wearing rose-colored glasses. You act like we don't have a good team, aren't 10-1, don't have the best defense in football, and are on pace to have one of the best pass Ds in NFL history (ONLY allowing 136.9 yards of passing per game!)
You're talking about sitting starters because "they're too physical" which is a damn joke. thank god our players and coaching staff don't think like you. Sounds like you want us to roll over like a scared dog.
Grab your nuts and let's f**king go! This is gonna be a great game win or lose. I expect this team to bring it and be fast and hit hard, like they do every week.
Hell yeah NY!!! Make Jackson pay when he runs on us. It's a good start.
That's what I'm saying! SF is legit OUR defense has forced two QBs to get benched because we were that dominate (Mayfield/Rogers).
SF is currently the #1 overall D.
SF leads the league in sacks.
SF is top 10 in QB hits
SF is #1 in TFL
SF is #1 in hurry %
SF is #2 in pressures
SF is #4 in total TO.
Let's stop with the b******t. This defense is fast and f**ks s**t up. There's no p***yfooting going on with the defensive side of the ball.
Our offense is currently 6th overall. We're #2 in pts per game (30.2). We're STILL #2 in running the ball and are starting to show we can pass the ball as well.
This is gonna be a good game. period. SF will come to play and anyone thinking we should roll over and let them have their way with us need to GTFO.
Let's GOOO!!!

I feel like they run similar personnel groups to SF. A lot of 2 TEs 2 RBs...they get extra blockers in there.
You can run on the Pats. Their front 4 aren't remotely close to what we have IMO. IF (big if) we can get some pressure with just 4, it allows other players to fill up passing lanes/running lanes. We gotta keep our LBers clean to roam. I'm expecting our defense to play similar to how defenses have been playing us. Make him a passer. We have to play discipline football and hit Jackson as much as possible. Make him have to think quickly and mistakes will happen.
As far as offense, we have to run the ball and get up early. Baltimore loves to blitz, which Kyle and JG will feast on IMO. TOP will be important.
I feel like the Ravens game plan kinda goes out the window if they play from behind.
I think that's the key matchup there, the Baltimore Blitz against the 49ers passing attack. Goff couldn't deal with Batlimore's blitz and I hope Jimmy can. If we can get a lead on them because of a TD off a Baltimore Blitz, it will make the 4th qtr a lot easier to deal with. Time of possession is key to keep Lamar on the sidelines and rest our defense, because our defense will be chasing squirrels again with Lamar's mobility. That takes a ton of energy and they will need time to get their breath before the next Baltimore offensive series.

I wouldn't compare NE D to ours. I truly feel NE is overrated all around.

Nah! Only that Skittle guy. But TBF, he's an scared Seacawk fan pretending to know a thing or two about Niner football.
Agree. I pretty much put him on ignore with all the less than smart things he's posted.

When you run for 300 yards, you don't need to pass it a lot but going back to his time at Louisville, Jackson has shown constant improvement as a passer and he's still getting "but he's just an athlete playing QB" treatment when the guy is decisive, has a lightning quick release and can put the ball on a dime down the field. The talking heads have zero credibility when it comes to Jackson considering how many were still derping about him needing to play WR or RB after his junior year in college where he showed massive improvement in passing the ball.
I've watched him pretty extensively and there is zero reason to question him as a passer. When they've needed him to make big throws, he's done so consistently. I think he's already a better passer than either Vick or Kaepernick ever were and he's only getting better.
Agree to disagree...all through college he was a below 60% completion passer. Same as last yr. He's magically a 67% comp passer all of a sudden?
Nah that's scheme IMO. That running game puts a ton of stress on the defense. We saw it last night, dudes were wide f**king open.

No it's really not. The back end maybe, but not as a whole.
