Seems the only thing that kills our offensive drives are stupid penalties. If we limit those, our offense is unstoppable.

SF is currently the #1 overall D.
SF leads the league in sacks.
SF is top 10 in QB hits
SF is #1 in TFL
SF is #1 in hurry %
SF is #2 in pressures
SF is #4 in total TO.

Let's stop with the b******t. This defense is fast and f**ks s**t up. There's no p***yfooting going on with the defensive side of the ball.
Our offense is currently 6th overall. We're #2 in pts per game (30.2). We're STILL #2 in running the ball and are starting to show we can pass the ball as well.
This is gonna be a good game. period. SF will come to play and anyone thinking we should roll over and let them have their way with us need to GTFO.

Let's GOOO!!!

Amen!

Ravens almost doubled the Pats.

I don't care if you're defense is the '85 Bears, being on the field that long makes the best look bad!

Bear with me...pun intended

If only there was a defense that was on the field significantly longer than the offense and still dominated the game

Oh wait! Don't look any further than the Sunday night matchup 49ers vs Packers! TOP 35:16 to 24:44 in Packers favor!

Result? 8 points

This defense can handle the Ravens. These glasses are 20/20.

The pats defense is not better than ours. We have the best defense.

Patriots have a better secondary. Linebackers are up in the air IMO. Their linebackers are bigger and have a lot more experience and I'd say are more versatile but ours are faster.

The issue with the Ravens is right now they're clicking at a level where we were in 2012. Everyone pretty much knew what we were going to do but nobody could do a thing to stop us. Ravens want to run the ball, everyone knows they want to run the ball...and they're still gashing teams in the run.

Rams were 4th in the league in rushing yards allowed. Yesterday they gave up nearly double their yearly high in a game.

Honestly it's crazy right now. I think the only thing that really stops them are key injuries or bad weather conditions. I hope our guys find a way to get it done but it's going to be tough as hell.

A part of me thinks that we should just play contain on the DL. Try to squeeze the pocket but not actually attempt to bring Lamar down until we know it's a pass, hope that our secondary holds up. Lamar has proven that he can beat teams through the air so it won't be easy, as someone said it's not a Tim Tebow situation.

But when you put the ball in the air things can happen - bad throws, drops. If we allow them to run the way they did vs the last few teams and we don't have a chance unless the offense scores TDs on each of their drives(if that happens I'd certainly be cool with it)

I wouldn't mind a couple of run blitzes against that RPO. I think our defense is good enough to slow them down, but they'll need help from our offense to rest themselves. Our offense has to match them score for score and not get too far behind to where we get one dimensional. I wan the Raven offense to get one dimensional, not us.

On 3rd and shorts, defense has to be patient, because it's almost impossible to stop a running QB from gaining yardage and making first downs. I hope we can make Lamar pay for the first down, but a hit to the head or something like that adds 15+ yards and that could be the difference between a punt and a field goal. I think both Saleh and Kyle have to get creative on their alignments and fronts in this game, and give John Harbaugh something to think about as he's calling the plays.

Shoot if they are going run the ball down our throats, lets play a goal line defense!

You're right, I'm probably not fully objective since it's difficult to not to let my fandom cloud my judgement and I still tend to see things through rose-colored glasses when it comes to the 49ers.

But even looking through rose-colored glasses, it's still difficult to see us winning this game.

dude you say the same pessimistic crap every week. You're the opposite of wearing rose-colored glasses. You act like we don't have a good team, aren't 10-1, don't have the best defense in football, and are on pace to have one of the best pass Ds in NFL history (ONLY allowing 136.9 yards of passing per game!)

You're talking about sitting starters because "they're too physical" which is a damn joke. thank god our players and coaching staff don't think like you. Sounds like you want us to roll over like a scared dog.

Grab your nuts and let's f**king go! This is gonna be a great game win or lose. I expect this team to bring it and be fast and hit hard, like they do every week.

I'm planning on diving into Ravens Film later on Thanksgiving(we live in Bama and all our family lives in OR and WA so it's a short, small family thanksgiving for us) and am going to be investigating this supposed Ravens offense. I still remember a lot of the stuff Roman did here so I'm interested to see what's different.

Not much from what I've seen. Just more speed at RB and WR

Seems like they use way more TE's. Obviously a lot more QB runs. Lamar is so much faster and agile than Kap was. I can't wait to hear what you find JD. You nailed the film analysis on the Packers last week. Their LB's gotten eaten up on the run action. I think Jimmy was like 7-7 for 160 yards and a TD off of play action

Yeah and, not to toot my own horn, the GB interior O-line struggled getting to the 2nd level in the run game.

JD do you see similarities to the 49er Har-Roman offense when Davis was essentially the primary (first look) receiver on the team?

haven't had a chance to look at the film yet. I'm cutting together my review videos from the Packers game and then I'm going to do a special video on the Texans for a close friend of mine.

The best way to slow down the ravens offense is to keep them on the bench.

I imagine another benefit is to simply take their mojo too.

Can't dominate mentally without the ball much.

Make Lamar more human too.

Agree.

I thought the latest was that it won't be raining?

Just googled weather, 90% rain, 82% humidity, and wind 9 mph.

That favors a straight ahead run game vs our run game which is outside the hash marks, and the wind isn't going to help both side's passing attack, although I'm betting Baltimore is used to this kind of weather more than we are. I'll say weather is a slight advantage to Baltimore.

Nah that's scheme IMO. That running game puts a ton of stress on the defense. We saw it last night, dudes were wide f**king open.

It's almost like the opposite career trajectory for Kaepernick.

Looked like a real baller 2012, then the year after every throw was seemingly contested. Anquan Boldin saved our ass that year.

I feel like they run similar personnel groups to SF. A lot of 2 TEs 2 RBs...they get extra blockers in there.

You can run on the Pats. Their front 4 aren't remotely close to what we have IMO. IF (big if) we can get some pressure with just 4, it allows other players to fill up passing lanes/running lanes. We gotta keep our LBers clean to roam. I'm expecting our defense to play similar to how defenses have been playing us. Make him a passer. We have to play discipline football and hit Jackson as much as possible. Make him have to think quickly and mistakes will happen.

As far as offense, we have to run the ball and get up early. Baltimore loves to blitz, which Kyle and JG will feast on IMO. TOP will be important.

I feel like the Ravens game plan kinda goes out the window if they play from behind.

I think that's the key matchup there, the Baltimore Blitz against the 49ers passing attack. Goff couldn't deal with Batlimore's blitz and I hope Jimmy can. If we can get a lead on them because of a TD off a Baltimore Blitz, it will make the 4th qtr a lot easier to deal with. Time of possession is key to keep Lamar on the sidelines and rest our defense, because our defense will be chasing squirrels again with Lamar's mobility. That takes a ton of energy and they will need time to get their breath before the next Baltimore offensive series.

I wouldn't compare NE D to ours. I truly feel NE is overrated all around.

Well the Rams aren't a bad defense - but they got massacred on Monday night. Huston is over .500 and so are the rams in terms of win loss record. I think the Baltimore offense is not to be underestimated. I hope Baltimore underestimates *our* offense.

Only other thing I can think of would be Jimmy's one or two WTF throws per game, and I'd be interested to see how many of those came shortly after one of those stupid penalties put the team in a bad position.

I agree, they are very sound but have not had many huge challenges.

Greg Roman - Collin Kaepernick.
Greg Roman - Lamar Jackson

Kaep ate teams alive his first two years and teams seemed to solve him in year 3. Pull up some year three Kaep tapes to see how to solve Jackson?
Just got done at a few of the Ravens forums. Apparently we will get steamrolled like the last 3 teams. Something like 30+ points because Lamar is god. Good times. hahaha

That's all well and good, but the Ravens are a higher class of team by far than any team we've faced all year. After watching GB's ineptitude on Sunday, it may be that the Ravens are the first good team we've played all year. The Ravens are also just a terrible matchup for us on both sides of the ball. We're not a good run defense and we've struggled containing mobile QBs and that's not a recipe for success in this game.

I've generally been optimistic this year and have felt we've at least had a chance in every game we've played this year, but this one has blowout written all over it.
