It involved a 5 man line in an almost wide nine formation and one of the linebackers run blitzed right into the dive option and then the wide DE played contain against Lamar. However, having stopped the Ravens on that drive, Edleman fumbles and the Ravens went on to score and got a 4 point lead on the Patriots and then a series or two later, Tom throws an interception to Earl and that's when the Raven's ground game started grinding the Cheat-riots to pieces. If not for the Edleman fumble and the Brady Interception, it looked to me like it would be a close 3 point win by Tom and Bellicheat.
Neither the Cardinals nor the Ravens are doing anything particularly groundbreaking in terms of their offensive approach. You're basically seeing spread offenses get run out of big peoples. They are distracting you with the razzle dazzle and then punching you in the face with their two and three TE formations. Defenses will eventually start to figure it out, just like what we saw with the extensive use of the read option in 2012. We saw how quickly the 49ers made adjustments from the first Cardinals game to the second. I have no doubt that Belichick will be opening up his whole bag of tricks should he see Baltimore in the playoffs.
Ultimately when it comes to the Ravens, defenses just have to commit to hitting Lamar Jackson everytime he tries running those read options. If they want to play pretend and act like he's a RB then you hit him like he is a RB each and every single play. You'll undoubtedly get flagged and you'll get gashed on the ground by their RB's a few times but if defenses did this game after game, he'd be a lot less jazzed up to take off and run as frequently and they'd be less likely to call those plays period. While the NFL still allows it, defenses just have to keep blasting these QBs. Run them over every time and eventually it cease being an issue because no one wants to see their QB get mauled game after game.
I've posted this play before but this is what the unblocked guy has to do on every read option play. The 49ers got absolutely gashed by Lynch here but how many times do you want to see your QB rocked like this? Brooks flat out ignores everything else and just wrecks Wilson.
What San Diego had success with against Baltimore in the playoffs was just loading up with defensive backs and sending guys flying to the ball on each play. The Chargers had a four man rush with often seven DB's out on the field and it stopped Baltimore dead in their tracks, then they got behind and this is not an offense that is really built to play from behind. You're not going to beat them with power so you may as well try to beat them with speed and limit their opportunities for big plays on the ground.
I just hope that win or lose, the team doesn't let themselves fall apart the way the Rams did. That was absolutely disgraceful, that defense showed zero heart and zero pride, they just let the Ravens run wild all over them and never seemed to offer even the slightest resistance. If you're going to lose, lose playing hard, hitting hard and not quitting until the clock runs out in the fourth quarter.
YES!!!
" Suggs was penalized for hitting the quarterback below the knees while in the pocket. But Dean Blandino, the NFL's vice president of officiating, since has said the hit was legal because in the read option Bradford forfeits his protection as a quarterback. He reminded officials of the rule this week."

Let's show Lamar some extreme violence. Blow his ass up on EVERY read option play. Keep your head up (no crown hits) and knock his off.

No need to go sack LJ every play.
Contain, pressure, and let him panic and run right into you.
Let him sack himself.
Win game!

So they can hit him below his waist since he's a runner?
Might as well tackle him at the knees every time they do read option.

Hey guys! I've been watching your posts for over 10 years, just would rather read rather than post. I'll be at the game with my son who is a Raven's fan. I've been confident about every game except Seattle and this one. I think it will be close, supposed to be a rainy wet mess here. It may come down to ST actually given the weather. Go Niners! Will be in my Lott jersey section 131! See you there!

I just finished watching the chargers vs ravens playoff game. The chargers were consistently in the backfield with only 4 down lineman. We have a better front 4 than the chargers and we have been wreaking havoc in the backfield all season long and do not think that will change in this game. I think the toughest match up for our defense is our LB's vs there TE's both in the run game and passing game. I also think that we should have Jimmy Ward spy Jackson all game. I know someone had mentioned earlier that we should have Tartt spy and Jimmie be the single high safety but I think Jimmie Ward is a better tackler and sideline to sideline defender.
On offense, I think we should just play a ball control/keep away type of game and protect the football. Establishing our run early will help open up the pass later in the game. The ravens have a huge D line and I think we can wear them down with our OZ run game which should neutralize their pass rush later on if we have success and tire them out with it. Jimmy G needs to be the 3rd down machine that he has shown he can be throughout this season. He also needs to protect the football at all costs.
If weather forces us into a smash mouth type of football game, I think we will have a tough time winning this game. They are not the redskins. Unless we can force a couple of turnovers, which Lamar is known for giving up a few fumbles here and there, we will have a chance in that type of game but it will not be easy.

This is one game where Bosa should be given the green light to go after and punish the QB every single time. I want Jackson under a pile of 49ers like Rodgers was...whether he has the ball or not. LOL

I believe, I believe. I believe we have a chance to win any game because of the foundation we have.
I'll leave this here:
I'll leave this here:
"I've never met a coach who reminds me of Bill Belichick as much as Kyle," said former Patriots and Falcons front-office man Scott Pioli, who has worked with both.

I just saw that the FOX TV announcers for this game are Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis. I don't have a problem with them but I'm surprised they don't have Joe Buck and Troy Aikman doing this game since they are considered the #1 crew. This has to be the best matchup of the day.

Also, the Ravens have an undrafted rookie center that will be starting his first game. I don't care if he is the most high speed rookie center in the history of rookie centers, I'd do everything possible to make him uncomfortable, throw a wide variety of matchups, stunts and A gap blitzes at him, give him the kitchen sink and have him second guessing what he is seeing out there. We all saw firsthand how Roman's offense struggled without stability at center. Don't allow him to get settled in by just driving forward and run blocking, make him work and make quick decisions a throughout the game.
