As long as we take away his option he is forced to run or pass. We were confident we could defend his passing and it worked. He got 104 on the ground but only 101 passing. No big explosive plays.

The niners crashed on Ingram on purpose.... it took the guess work out of the equation and let our ends play with aggression. It's f**king common to play that way, except in college most teams crash the QB.
But guess what.... Ingram is a god damn force to be reckoned with, and our wide nine is soft in the middle..... hence the focus on stopping him. Had we game-planned to stop lamars outside runs, we would have been crushed up the middle until we focused on it, and THEN we would have been destroyed by Lamar on the outside.
Why did our defense not hold them to zero yards and zero points.... that seems to be your illogical question. That team is full of athletes, and we did better than anyone else at stopping the current version of the ravens offense
Exactly.
And on the athletes comment, they have a truck load of big bodies to open holes for Jackson and Ingram.

RB Mark Ingram on the 49ers:
"They're a great team – well-coached, physical, and they run the ball (well) and a solid defense. They're a great team in the league, and this was a great win for us. It wasn't pretty, but we were able to gut it out, and that's what great teams do."
Ingram on if this game felt like a playoff game:
"It definitely was a playoff atmosphere today. Cold, wet, physical football against a top team in the NFC. We went toe to toe in a heavyweight battle, and we were able to somehow pull it out. Big, huge testament to our team, getting a victory and overcoming adversity against a great team."
DT Brandon Williams on the 49ers:
"They're a good team. They had a good scheme. Their offense did some good things, and they got real schemed up for us. We just have to look back at the tape, go over what we need to learn, and keep moving forward."

You pretty much have to pick your poison when you go after Baltimore. The Rams locked in on stopping Lamar Jackson and ended up stopping no one as Ingram and Jackson ran wild on them. The 49ers dared Lamar to beat them alone and held that team to their lowest point total all season so clearly their plan wasn't a bad one. That was a monster offense, holding them to 20 points total, especially after 7 of those points came on a turnover deep in 49ers territory, is a huge win.

How did the Ravens win? How did our defense get gashed? Look at the highlights of the game posted on youtube. Focus your attention on the defensive line. You will see Bosa and others getting held on nearly every play.
Short and sweet? It wasn't called. Obvious holding penalties were overlooked. Meanwhile, if our defenders made the simple mistake of breathing on Lamar, they were flagged for 15-yard roughing the QB penalties.
That's how the Ravens won.

It's like we forgot L. Jackson was going to run the ball at times.
It seemed like the strategy was to do that. They shut down the passing game and the RB. It worked pretty well but the O couldn't finish.
Correct me if I'm wrong but on a RPO you can hit the qb? So those plays he pulls it back out from the run we can hit the QB right? I saw a few plays where they went after the RB instea d must be instinct. If there's a next time I'd tag the QB every play as well.
I've been saying that all week. But I get what they were doing. I just wanted to see them sacrifice the 8 yard run and light Jackson up. But overall they kept the offense in check.

After teaching them all gas no brakes, it's hard to switch gears on the fly and be VERY patient and just string LJ out and trust your secondary. Too many times a DE, DL, LB and S got a little too impatient or got fooled and gave up big yards on the ground losing their gap assignments. A couple miscues in coverage assignments.
But the rain was the big one. We're a team built on speed and quickness and all gas no brakes going up against the biggest power OL in the game, 3 TE's, FB and a QB who can run better than their #1 RB in the rain. The elements fit their game perfectly esp. in their home and 40 degrees plus a 10am game on a short week with extra time for them to prepare.
So next time, more patience (string out, force action inside...looking at you K'Waun Williams), discipline in gaps, crash LJ at the mesh point and avoid the penalties.
Also, their passing game doesn't scare me. I'd consider bringing some calculated blitzes off the edges or right up the A gap to blow up the mesh point.
I couldn't agree more. The rain really favored their style of football for all the reasons you mentioned, both on offense and defense.

I saw holding all day long, but I just thought it was my homer glasses.

There was also a big 3rd down snap with :00 on the play clock.
We benefited from some 50:50 PI calls though.

What was demoralizing is that with 6 minutes left they simply just drove the ball down our throats for the win. Somebody on defense needed to step up and it didn't happen. Their o line won when counted the most.

Tired. We do the same to most teams. The analyst said everyone says have a spy for Lamar- sure on paper that's great, but find me an athlete who can match him .... 100% right. The guy is a beast. Wilson is much the same. Maybe a PWillis or Ray Lewis in their primes could negate them most plays but nobody on our roster right now. It's tough.

or, how about we would have kept the ball and scored a TD leaving less than a min left on the clock? How about the offense step up for once?

Pretty much this. Of all 12 games we've played so far this was probably the only game where the defense couldn't give the ball back to the offense for a final drive, which is pretty amazing. Hopefully this gives the offense a sense to play better with the opportunities given to them before the final minutes of a game because we had lots this past week.

Where's the "OP is an idiot" option?
Why didn't we do a better job defensively against the Ravens?
20 points! 3 on the last play of the game! How do you even ask this question. Because you too busy or lazy to look at the numbers I did it for you.
The Ravens have scored 45, 41, 49, and 37 points in their last 4 games before Sunday. Now tell me what they could do better. Go ahead. I'm going to make a drink.
