Anyways, moving on.
This, I mean he was dumb for not considering the implication in his comment but debates like this go way back in regard to equipment color in tons of sports. Hockey goal tender pads, Jerseys that match the turf, it was only a matter of time before someone innocently or otherwise stepped into the skin color trap. I have decided to believe from the context and the reactions of several black friends and player/ pundit tweets that it was innocent enough in intent to just move on, but it doesn't change the fact that you have got to know better and a slap on the wrist suspension sets the right tone that " hey this isn't acceptable" but also we recognize that it was just a mistake and probably wont happen again.
"You gonna learn today!"
Safe to say, Tim Ryan learned today.

Issue brown gloves to the whole league, and watch how Lamar still has brilliant play action fakes. Remove all doubt.

I actually think Tim Ryan is awful. Judging from this thread, I am surprisingly in the minority.

Can we agree that the comment was blown way out of proportion and the reaction was too then?
What he said wasn't "stupid". I guess to say it out loud in today's world might have been a stupid idea, but there's validity to the statement and it wasn't said with malice.
I missed this. What did he say?

I just heard a national newscast headline and the said this.' Tim Ryan suspended for saying Jackson's color helps him play better.' Seriously, that's the narrative they go with. His mention of dark skin came after he said his ball handling makes it hard enough to follow the ball and then you add in the wet football against the dark uniforms and his dark skin color and it made it even harder. Skin color was one of 4 things he mentioned. Great ball handling, wet football, dark uniforms and skin color in that order. So they go with skin color as if he didn't mention anything else. That's the America we live in today.

Lmao, you don't need this thread for that. It's easy to know......
1. Every white person is racist that is out to oppress every race and kill innocent people.
2. Every non white, is an oppressed victim by every white person everywhere.
White is evil racist, non white is oppressed and victimized no matter who or where they are.
Welcome to America 2019
And here I thought the Kap is better than Jimmy post was the leader in the club house for dumbest post of the year....but just before the deadline we have a true heavyweight contender.
Awesome, being labeled "dumb" is a honor compared to being labeled "racist".....

However, I do think his apology (though not perfect) was sufficient and sincere. I'm not sure a game suspension is necessarily warranted either; having him on air right away again to re-iterate the apology would be meaningful, and cancel culture isn't really a valuable form of activism. There are awful things that people can say that should result in a time-out from work, but this was just dumb, not awful.
I agree with all of that. And frankly, the color of a player's uniform would make a bigger difference than the color of his hand. It was a ridiculous thing to say, he apologized, we can move on.

Actually what he said is that with a rain soaked ball his skin tone may have made the ball harder to see.
Much like the way Trumps skin tone would make cheese puffs hard to see against his skin. But that's funny so it's ok.

Having seen Ryan on TV and heard him on the radio over the years, I haven't noticed anything in his character that would indicate that he had any ill will towards Lamar or any racist intent. I am also willing to give Ryan the benefit of the doubt because he actually played DT in the NFL, so he knows how hard it is to track fake hand-offs, naked bootlegs, etc. Taken out of context the headlines state the color of the skin while he was clearly encompassing all factors specifically the jerseys. Should he have said it? No. While it can be argued that he was factually correct, it is an issue that can and will be taken the wrong way.
The biggest problem I have is when people overly and repeatedly highlight the marginal issues, then it becomes harder to gain sympathy from the masses when real racism raises it's head...issues where people's lives are truly affected. As an example, when I parent my teenager, if I focus on correcting every little issue while lacking in praise, it causes her to want to give up, lie, or sneak things to get her way. When I have some grace and focus only on the key disciplinary issues she is more receptive. On the side of racism, I believe people do throw their hands in the air and give up often because of being called out far too often for issues that are not as significant.

He wasn't he was talking about visually seeing the ball. Nice spin though.
I don't particularly care for Ryan, even mentioned I wish they had made a change for him too in the off season. But this whole thing is ridiculous. Nothing he said was wrong imo, simple football analysis.

WHAT?? He seriously said that, on the air, live? I like Tm Ryan, but that was bone-headed of him.
Too bad I promised the Mods that I'd stay out of the Parking Lot.
This is one that
I know I'd spark at least a pages of debate on.

Annnnnnd that's how you end up with a Donald Trump as president, lol.
America, where racial division is pushed and pedaled every day to ignorant people that base their thoughts on what they're told instead of their life experience.
