I didn't get that one either.

There was a penalty and the Saints got half the distance penalty. Still open to second guessing though.

They used the Witherspoon personal foul yardage to go halfway to endzone. I guess they thought they have a better than 50/50 shot at making it...

lol that was Payton's ego right there.

I thought it gave the defense a boost in morale being able to get the stop.

Post whatever stats you want, theres a reason why Brigdewater is a backup.

And guess what, Bridgewater didn't play today

49ers won, end of story.

Teddy Roosewater is a backup because his knee disintegrated in a preseason 2017 injury, a much worse injury than Jimmy G. suffered. No one knew if he would ever be able to play football again. When he returned, no one was willing to take a chance on him as a starter. He'd led the Vikes to the divisional crown the year before, and only lost to the Seahawks in the wildcard round because of a muffed chip shot FG at the buzzer after a would-have-been game-winning drive.

He's a FA after this year. He won't be a backup anymore unless he decides to stay in NO to succeed Brees when Brees retires.

There are QBs that were annointed as the next great thing with far fewer starts than Garoppolo.

What I see with him is a QB that is ascending, looking more comfortable and confident in this offense.

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that progression to continue until the "Just make Garoppolo beat you with his arm" talking points are in the dustbin of history.

Agreed, it's subjective but if you ask around the league, analysts, coaches, players, fans most would say he is NOT elite. That would be the most common opinion of him at this point which is why it's reasonable and fair. As a matter of fact, as we all know he's been doubted and under-estimated by most analysts for most of the season. The only people saying he is elite are a few 49er homers.

Your assessment is spot on: JG is not elite but is absolutely an ascending talent looking increasingly comfortable within the offense and beginning to lay down some serious numbers and I have every reason to believe that will continue under KS. Most importantly, he has already put the team on his back and won with his arm as he did yesterday which makes me confident that the passing game is coming into its own and should also be shutting up any critic who still thinks he hasn't beaten teams with his arm.

During a GMF segment, I think it was Nate Burleson who said he believes Payton went for two to show "his supreme coaching skills" ...I'm paraphrasing, but it was his opinion that, basically, his arrogance showed up early and bit him in the end.
Call it what you want but Jimmy G's arm is ELITE. Kyle is already on record saying his arm is equivalent to Aaron Rodgers.

He had some jaw-dropping throws he threaded to super tight windows yesterday and if you can't appreciate the surgical gunslinging, I feel bad for you!

Never delete it. I was thinking the NFL network replay where the inject in game audio and side line talks, etc.
Weird how that game worked out. I don't wish an injury on any player but I think the team got really lucky when Cook went out otherwise I think they would have been victimizing Harris the whole game. It seems like a lot of the issues they were having defensively were due to Harris' lack of coverage skills, though as whole, they weren't as sharp as they have been in other games this year. Credit the Saints' O-Line for limiting the effectiveness of the pass rush, though losing Ford so early in the game was probably a factor. I really hope he will be healthy in time or the Seattle game. It's going to have to be all hands on deck for that one. I have to say though, after watching the Rams beat them last night, it is a wonder to me how those guys can always look like star touched world beaters when they play us but seem pretty ordinary against everyone else. Carroll clearly gets them motivated whenever the 49ers are on the field, probably a holdover from the Harbaugh days.

I still have the '81 NFCCG Cowboys-Niners game on VHS tape, sitting over there on my desk. LOL

I'm not counting the Rams out. They are back on track since they started using Gurley as a workhorse again.
Online is quite an amusement today all over the internet. It's ironic that to people outside the faithful, you constantly hear the niners called the "whiners." However, since last night if I had a worlds smallest violin for every crybaby post I've read by a Saints fan, I could combine them and make a worlds largest wooden rollercoaster.

I keep hearing "the refs screwed us", "the niners have the refs on payroll", "the refs continue to screw us this season", "Losing Cook cost us this one", "the niners were headhunting."

The only ones with a history of headhunting in this game were the Saints and Payton's sketchy *ss. Losing Cook was unfortunate for them but that's football. Players, all pros, pro bowlers, and starters all get injured. It's the land of the next man up. We've dealt with one gutpunch injury after another the whole season. We lost Ford early in this one. If they think what Cook was doing was sustainable for the whole game, their probably delusional anyhow. Despite a lackluster defensive performance from the defense as a whole they are usually good at adjusting to individual players in the game. Just like Lamar Jackson came out swinging last week and the defense got its s**t together and started to slow him down in the second half. Michael Thomas is who he is. He's probably the best receiver in the NFL at this point and there's only so much you can do to stop him. Especially when Sherman is out there playing through a knee injury.

As far as the refs go. They must not be screwing those dudes too bad this season. They've won 10 games this year after all. As far as bad calls go. That's been every week to every team. The NFL's officiating crew has been very underwhelming and inconsistent this year but every team has suffered through that. There were plenty of missed calls that should have went in the niner's favor yesterday as well. Last week I saw Kittle getting held all game by the Ravens and not one flag. Officiating isn't a Saints problem, it's an NFL problem.

Lastly I'll say I'm proud of this team. All the key injuries this year. 5th in miles traveled by NFL teams this season. This brutal stretch of three games the team just came out of. These guys are battle tested and have showed they can win a number of ways and compete with the NFL'S best football teams. The niners are back with youth on their side and one of the youngest and best playcallers in the league on their side. This has a chance to be far more sustainable than the tease we got in 2011-2013. Go niners!

We just won a crazy shootout in one of the toughest places to play against a tough defense. This was an amazing win.
