Because Seattle beat us in our division game. If we had beaten seattle (along with beating LA and ARI in both games) and if Seattle wins in Seattle and we end up tied, I think we would win because of our division record.

Someoen correct me if I'm wrong.

If we win out and beat them IN seattle and they STILL win the division - then that is f**king annoying.

Yeah it is!! So the best case scenario is they lose one or two games before our match-up in Seattle and hope that we win out the rest of the season.

it is insane that you've lost 2 games and one of them made that much of a difference. i cant think of a time when a division had two teams win this many games.

If we win out and beat Seattle in Seattle, our record will be 14-2 and Seattle (currently with 2 losses) will be 13-3.

It would be mathematically impossible for Seattle to own the division in this scenario.

Assuming SEA loses to LA or CAR or both

Okay so we win out and we own that first seed. Looking forward to it.

No because Seattle already has 2 losses so us beating them in week 17 would be loss 3 and we would only have 2.

No, Seattle already has two losses. Even if they win their next 3 games and ONLY lose to us in week 17, they will be 13-3.

And if we win out, we will be 14-2.

We literally "control our destiny" and it is impossible for Seattle if we win our 4 remaining games.

49ers (Currently 10-2) + 4 wins = 14 and 2

Seattle (Currently 10-2) + 3 wins and 1 loss to us = 13-3

It doesn't matter if Seattle beats Carolina, AZ, and LA.

Bingo! We basically need to win 7-in a row to have the #1 seed AND win the superbowl.

Let's see if we have what it takes!
Staley starting?

I wonder if he's going to be rusty and if he'll be subbed for if in dire need.
All we gotta do is win out and we are the #1 seed. Now if we happen to lose to the saints but win the final 3 (including Seattle) and Seattle wins them all but us, then it goes down to strength of schedule. In which case as pointed out, Minnesota and the Eagles record vs. Green bay & redskins. But that can, and will, change before the end of the season. We really need the skins to upset the eagles and the packers to beat Vikings.

That all being said if we win out we are in the driver's seat, and I think we can.

If we win out, we win the division, if we lose to NO and beat sea, and tie records, flip a coin.
