I posted on another thread that if we beat Seattle and win one of the other two games we secure the #1 seed regardless of what any other teams do. After a massive three game run vs. the best teams in the league, this seems like the most probable let-down game. Hopefully the prospect of securing a playoff spot is enough motivation. All the injuries though...ugh.

That's why I'm not worried. We've been fighting too hard to let a mediocre team come into our spot and beat us with the playoffs on the line. I completely understand the injury concern. Even if it ends up a close game we're too battle tested and we've been through too much to let them win. Not at home.

The Falcons have won 3 of their last 5, and dropped 40 last week. No pushovers in this league. Shanny knows this, talks about it all the time.

I wonder if the HC's knowing each other's tenancies will make the game flow a little differently. Quinn has to know Shanny's formations and looks better than most coaches...could work the other way as well.

Falcons still have Matt Ryan and Julio Jones which make them very dangerous on offense.
They have been playing well and teams with nothing to lose are always dangerous when they have talented players.
Hopefully despite our injuries we come out ready to play at home and take care of business. Need to make sure we're 13-2 heading into Seattle.
If we're lucky week 17 won't have anything for us to play for and we can make the decision whether to sit key guys and let them heal up with basically two weeks off.

If it weren't for the fact that a win secures a playoff spot, I'd say that the emotional letdown and injuries would mean a trap game, but this is the first chance Shanahan has gotten so far so clinch a playoff spot. That's a big deal!

After the Seahawks loss and the following Cards victory, I'm not worried about the team handling emotional games. They should be over that by now.

I think we have enough vets on this team who understand what's at stake to keep everyone motivated. I think the injuries while hurting us in the talent on the field certainly could remind the other guys that this isn't the same fully healthy roster so you can't just assume because you beat New Orleans you're going to beat Atlanta(maybe helped that Falcons smoked NO at NO)
There was an article that talked about how big the bye week was for the team in 2012. It's even bigger this year with our actual bye week being so damn long ago and us having key players who can certainly use the extra week to try to come back.
Resting up/healing up + avoiding having to play on the road + avoiding playing in the wild card round is certainly something that should keep all our guys focused.
It is good that we essentially have a 1 game buffer where we can still lose to either Atlanta or Rams and if we win in Seattle we're the #1 seed regardless. I'm personally hoping we don't have to use that buffer. If anything I'd much rather see us go 2-0 at home here and watch Seattle somehow lose one of their next two games.
Then we can beat them week 17 with our backups

Yeah I was more looking at the Saints win. As for Carolina I hope they find their sack this week....

Our offense has to come alive for the rest of the year and stay healthy. Our now patchwork defense will not be playing to level it was mid season, just too many damn injuries unfortunately.

Saints were caught sleeping on the wheel while on cruise control. Happens a lot in the nfl when a team runs away with the division.

I've casually browsed the Falcons board all season, mostly out of curiosity since Shanny has turned the team around while they are currently on the lower end of the win spectrum. Things have definitely changed from the SB when many of the Falcons fans shared a common venom for the over aggressive play-calls on offense when they were way ahead. With the way things have turned out since then, Shanny has essentially been deified while Quinn is seen as a bumbling idiot. (I can't blame them for their thinking).
Funniest quote there:
"I'd bet shanny will know what defense is on each play before quinn does....."
