Team identity: Offense or Defense?

Are we seeing a changing of the guard? All year it's been about the defense but lately it seems like the offense is starting to take over.

I really don't know at this point, but not surprised that our offense is starting to explode as the leader of this team is ultimately Kyle Shanahan.
Offense now, Defense when the playoffs start
Most balanced team in the NFL and that is why we are the most dangerous.
I think a lot of our defensive woes today were because of Harris and Azeez.

What's even more cool is that our offense in itself is perfectly balanced. Elite rushing and surgical passing, took the show on the road and dominated today!

Super bowl fever is getting so real.
Based solely on our head coach in the years to come our identity will ultimately become associated with offense.

This year we are balanced, more so than our defensive dominance would suggest.

While no cap expert I struggle to see how we will be able to keep all of the pieces that have made our defense so dominant.

I think moving forward we will come to be known for offensive excellence like in our golden era, but if our FO continues to draft brilliantly and manage the cap our defense may be able to keep up.
In general, balanced.
Balanced on the really really good side of the scale. If one is underperforming, or the opponent is only great on either D or O, the other can pull us out of the hole.
example: this year NE have had a great defence, with issues on offense. If opponents hobble the NE defence, they have a really good chance of winning.

As teams have found against the 49ers this year, choke down on one does not guarantee game success.

First half of the season it was the defense. Having Ford in and out, Kwon, Blair, Tartt out, the defense took some hits. With the offense coming together and the ESanders trade, I think it'll be the offense now. I can see 30 point games as a regular thing for this offense (weather permitting).
Both. thats why we get #6 this year. Offense is firing on all cylinders the last few weeks against some great teams. our defense will rebound but they have had some crushing injuries lately too. going into the playoffs with a top 5 offense and top 5 defense, feels great baby!!!
George Kittle.
balance is the key
TEAM
Definitely super balanced at this point but man we just can't get a break on the injury front. This D was definitely missing some starters against an offense like the Saints. I think it helped that they had the extra rest heading into this game as well.

Hopefully next man up continues to work out for us. Next two games are winnable but nothing is guaranteed in this league and we've seen multiple home teams take losses from much weaker opponents on paper.

Going to need our D to show up big down the stretch and hope the offense keeps doing what they just did though losing Richburg sucks.

I agree with this. I just hope we don't turn out to be one of those offensive heavy teams like your typical Chiefs or Packers. I don't need to see 48 points every week, but right now it's nice to know we can win any type of game script!
This team has each other's backs. Offense has caught up with the defense and there's still a lot of potential to be tapped into.
