This is assuming we beat Seattle.

SF cannot win the division without beating or tieing SEA.

SF and SEA both lose/win in W16 = same record going into W17. Winner takes all.

SF goes into W17 up 1 game: SEA win in W17 = teams end season tied, SEA wins tie breaker via two wins vs. SF. SEA wins division.

SEA goes into W17 up 1 game: SEA win = SEA 2 game better record. SEA wins division.

*(If both teams end up with same record after tie in W17 - either 12-3-1 or 11-4-1 - it comes down to the strength of victory tie breaker again).

If Seattle is smart they'll rest their starters on Sunday especially if we win Saturday as I don't think their seed will change much based on next weeks game.

Pete Carroll doesn't rest starters.

They continue playing for a bye anyways. I don't think they have the tie breakers but you still put the pressure on.

The sports landscape is littered with teams who had a chance and never got it done. I admit it, I'm jaded. Because of the Sacramento kings. Downhill since 2002 and we are now in a 14 year playoff drought. The A's have been cursed since Giambi didn't slide against the Yankees. Now we can't get out of the one game playoff. I hope the 9ers take care of business this year. This is their year.

As a Lakers fan, I apologize for them beating the Kings into non-existence. That is rough.

Kings also let their top talent on the team leave town. 49ers shouldn't be doing that re: Jimmy G/Bosa/Kittle/etc.

Lol no they didn't

Everyone was gone after 2004-2005 season. Do you see 49ers letting Jimmy G, Bosa and Kittle leaving after the 2022 season? Not likely.

Different sports, but not an exact comparison, but still. Keeping the core players goes a long way to having a shot every year.

Well I got one I'm glad this team has suffered heart breaking losses, this is what prepares you for the playoffs. We played down to the falcons. Rams are gonna get crushed Saturday.
Saleh proving he's still trash. Hope we bring in Fangio after he gets fired and some dumbass team hires Saleh as HC
It depends on who is actually healthy on saturday. I dont think this team that played today can beat the rams. It will be an interesting week of practice.

I'm not going to debate you on something you know nothing about. Their core got old. And injured . That's what's happened, not them letting them leave

Rams looked pretty bad today, to be fair. Arguably even worse than we did.

These division games are basically coin flips.

Nah, it's like I've said all along Jimmie Ward just needs to make plays. Pro Bowl my ass, the 49ers NEED to upgrade at Safety!!! Honestly, put Tavarius Moore back in, he gave up one or two plays but nothing that Ward has given up.
Defense has choked away leads in three consecutive games now. Last week we were just lucky to still have time for the offense to save us.

Splitting hairs over terminology. Kings situation matched Harbaugh Niners more re: age of core players, sure.

Point is that the key players here are young. Shanny and his core guys should be here for a while. They will always try to win every game of course, regardless, but if they don't win the SB this year the window isn't closed immediately.

No guarantee they win a SB in the next five years either, but the window should be about that long. The very good HC-QB-EDGE combo wins a lot of games in the 21st Century NFL.

Seeing Ward celebrate when he literally gave up the game-winning TD pissed me off so much. Dude publicly showed everybody he was unaware of where the goddamn goal line was. ON A GAME-DEFINING PLAY.

I mean, as called on the field he believed he had stopped him. Why wouldn't he celebrate stopping him?
