They went from having a legit shot at home field advantage to now more than likely they will have to play in Seattle, or New Orleans, or Green Bay....none of those are places you want to go play a football game during the playoffs. Green Bay probably being the most favorable. A loss to Seattle at home is almost a forgone conclusion at this point...

f**k Vegas and their Raiders!!

Why do so many fans think the Niners lost homefield cause of this game? They didn't. They'd have to win in Seattle week 17 to get homefield even if they won today. This loss doesn't change much. Win the next two games and get homefield

This.

I know this sounds weird, but I'm more concerned about how we looked on both sides of the ball than the loss itself. Even if Ward had stopped Jones a yard short I'd still feel that concern. Ending up with a loss could have been a way of waking everybody up.

Because anyone with a rational mind knows beating Seattle at home is a bad prospect.

Reminiscent to the 2012 season. Stellar defense suffered key injuries and the defense fell off towards the end of the season while the offense had to carry us to the Super Bowl....to play Baltimore. Very good chance of that happening again

that's what i said earlier today. that year justin smith had a torn pec and after that our D suffered.

Absolutely. The road to the playoffs that year were all road games as well I believe (@GB, @CAR, and @ATL) and the SB might as well been a road game as well with the way the refs called that game

no that year we had a bye and beat gb with ck going wild.

If we had won, we'd be one game up on Seattle.

Guess what? We'd STILL have to win Week 17. Otherwise Seattle would have the tiebreaker.

Because we lost, we are now tied with Seattle.

Which means... you guessed it! STILL have to win Week 17!

Things COULD change if we lose to the Rams and Seattle beats the Cardinals and a bunch of other things happen. But it's likely, either way, that we are in a position where we have to win Week 17 to win the division. This was true before, during and after today's game, regardless of if we had stopped Jones at the 1-yard line or allowed him to score the game-winning TD.

You're right!

People would rather panic than think it through, but thanks anyways.

Why f**k Vegas? Everyone says that's the 9th island.... but yes f**k the Raiders.
Beat the Rams and all is good. No room for error now though. Rams just got knocked out of the playoffs so hopefully they are demoralized and dont have their hearts in it on Saturday since their season is over.

And I will be rooting for the SEAHAWKS to beat the Cards next week if we beat the Rams. Them beating the Cards is the only thing that makes losing this game to the Falcons meaningless.

Nope. Rams can still tie the Vikings at 10-6 and be the #6 WC, knocking Vikings out of the playoffs. So they will be playing for their playoff lives still Sat night.

Yeah and how likely do you think it is that we go into Seattle and win? When was the last time you saw this team win a BIG GAME up there? It seems like we lose all the big ones up there for a decade or more. If not much more.
All this loss did today was keep Shanahan from resting more players next Saturday.

No better time than the present. Since they have to beat SEA in SEA to win the division, might as well be this year.

I wasn't talking about our chances in that game. I was talking about how today's loss in and of itself impacts our season. That HoneyBadger guy kept saying this was THE loss that costed us homefield advantage. That's not necessarily true. The loss that is going to cost us homefield, if it happens, is Week 17.

I personally don't like our chances in Week 17, and guess what? I felt that way before today's game, too! But I'm willing to at least give the team a chance.
