How could anyone hate young lol
Seriously. Young is my all time favorite player EVER. Unbelievable talent, heart, and determination. Loved watching him play.
And still not even close to Joe. Plus he fu**ked up in too many playoff games. Period. Take away 94 and he is just a regular season maestro with no clutch in him when it really counts.

Montana was old at that point, and Dallas was in dynasty mode. You cant just assume he would've beaten them. Young threw for 600 yds with 2 passing and 2 rushing TD's in those games. The Cowboys were just better.
Lott had one good year after he left SF.
Craig might have fumbled in 1990, but we lost a home title game on 5 field goals. We didn't allow a TD and still lost. Thats on everyone.
Way to leave out Young's TWO fu**ing INTs in 1992 and one INT in 1993 against Dallas in the playoffs. Those were fu**ing costly and he did the same sh** against Favre's Packers. Biased much? Without 1994 Young is a complete failure. Glad he was able to get it done once so he can still be fondly remembered.
Only one year did he come through for us. Montana came through four times and would not have thrown those picks against Dallas. We win two of those three games vs the Cowboys even with an aging Montana.
I'm a fan of Young but would never buy his jersey because of too many eff ups in the playoffs...just a huge tease in the regular season being all world only to not come up big when it counted save for one year.

That one year was only because we capitalized on 3 Dallas 1st quarter turnovers which helped give us a 17 point lead going into the half.

Not sure about that- He is one of the most accurate passers of all time and one of the pioneers of modern running QB play.
Also to say 'without the 94 season' is ridiculous. Obviously that plays a huge part of his legacy. I hate when people try to make that argument- if you don't count this, this, and this, then he sucks. Its nonsensical to try to manipulate things to fit your argument by removing important facts.

What it means is that he largely disappointed in the playoffs save for one year...ie he underperformed most of the time in the playoffs and made costly, costly mistakes against the Cowboys and Packers. He needed one more Super Bowl win and my feelings about him would be more positive. Still grateful for getting us an additional SB but still fell short overall.
And I dont care about this one of the most accurate passers of all time and running qb crap. I care about Super Bowls. Period. He needed more of that all time accuracy in the playoffs instead of tbrowing costly picks and turnovers.

I dont blame Young for feeling the way he did when Walsh brought him in. I think it's silly that 49ers fans hate on the guy.

What a garbage take
Imagine calling someone choker because they didn't beat the Packers at Lambeau with broken ribs and you being the only running game
Or the defending champion Packers again without Jerry Rice and a broken Garrison Hearst in the pouring rain
Or how about Hearst destroying his leg on the very first play from scrimmage
Unreal
Might as well call Montana a choker for getting wrecked by the Giants in 85 & 86 and absolutely s**tting the bed with arguably the greatest 49ers team of all time against a Vikings team that barely made the playoffs

How the hell is this thread still alive, after becoming a Montana/Young whiner fest?

Joe Montana was number 16, Steve Young was number 8. Its obvious that Steve was half the man ;)
I really liked Young but he just kept getting his bell rung. He was smart to get out when he did.
