Young's biggest problem in the 90s playoffs post-1994 is that the Niners defense couldn't stop Favre. It didn't help that Young didn't have a decent RB in 95-96, or that he had broken ribs in 96. The one time the defense did enough he beat Favre (aka, Young and Owens bailed then out) Hearst's injury derailed their offense again against Atlanta.

Oh yeah, Montana also retired after 1994, so we were far better off having Young those years than who knows what mediocre QB we would have had instead.

Favre only won a single SB as well. Would you rather have Aikman, Favre or Young in a 90s playoff game? Saying Aikman because he won more SBs as a starting QB than Young and Favre combined is the wrong answer, BTW.

He threw 5 TDs and 5 ints against gb in the 90s. True our D didn't help much but Young didn't pull his weight either
Look what you did Mayo

Not that surprising against an underrated, Reggie White led Packers 90s defense.

Two of those INTs were in the 1998 win, anyway. Pulled his weight just fine there despite them.

No, we're not quite through punishing Mayo yet.

There were a lot of blunders in the 90s. Trading Haley to the Cowboys ( a young team that had just made the playoffs ) was the biggest blunder. Letting Ricky Watters walk was number two. And horrible drafting in the 90s. So as the Niners aged, the talent wasn't replenished and we had to spend more and more in fee agency as the decade went on. Keeping Haley and Watters gives Young a Super Bowl in 92 and 95 minimum.

Neon Deion was a monster, the best corner I have ever seen. When we had him in '94, it was really really really good. When he left to go to the Cowboys in '95, it was really really really bad.

Defense wins championships.

Trading Haley.

Picking Bosa.

Letting Watters walk is one thing, but Haley had to go. I say this completely cognizant of the game changing type of player he was. Look into how horrible of a team mate he was, his personal issues, and his antagonism towards his teammates. He started fights with Montana. It's not like the brass said "eh, he isn't an important player." He singlehandedly destroys locker rooms, just as efficiently as rushing QBs.

Yes, just not to Dallas.
