So I took a look at the last draft class once again. FOUR names stuck out to me as major contributors to our success this year.

Nick Bosa #2
Deebo Samuel #36
Dre Greenlaw #148
Justin Skule #183

These four didn't just play, but they all contributed in ways that made us better and helped us win immediately, THIS YEAR. That's a pretty darn successful draft, is it not?

I don't have the stat in front of me right now, but for a long stretch of the season, the 49ers had an NFL best kick off unit. The average starting position for opposing teams was like the 21 yard line. They were one of the few teams that did not attempt to blast the kick out of the endzone all season long. They also had a league low return average, but Dustin Colquitt ended up taking that from Mitch...though Mitch did out net him.

I also don't think any other punter in the NFL had a higher percentage of successful kicks land inside the 20 yard line, and again only Dustin Colquitt had similar FC-Inside the 20 ratios. I could be wrong on that, i have not look at the numbers in weeks.....but generally speaking.....All evidence points toward the 49ers getting one of the better precision kickers in the NFL in the 4th round.

I honestly didn't know all of that. It sounds like (at least arguably) that makes FIVE players in a single draft who were immediate impact players, who contributed significantly, and improved the team.
And Kaden Smith is having a solid year with the Giants, 30 catches and 3 TDs filling in for Engram.

Jalen Hurd looked good.

UDFAs we picked up Kevin Givens who may be active in the playoffs and Azeez Al-Shaair has suited up for 5 games

Great draft. They absolutely nailed it. And we have another WR basically redshirted so its like a bonus selection.

But all of our rookies have contributed to this team and each have a hand in our 13 wins.

I still can not believe that spent a 4th round pick on PUNTER! There could have been an argument made for a fantastic kicker but a punter...?!

That pick could have been used in so many different ways. Additionally, average punters can be found a lot easier in the later rounds, which makes this pick really bad!

I know that this has been discussed on many forums but I am still mad :(

The rebuttal to this is always easy..... First, the punter is above average, and in some metrics bordering on elite.

The second....who......

Who would you take with the 4th that would have had an impact on this season. You have the full blessing of hindsight, you got to watch an entire season of football...what player would you have taken other then Mitch?

That's always the best question, who would you have taken instead? People put so much stock in round, and perceived value (Probably Mel Kiper to blame) over team fit and team need / value. I don't have a huge problem with drafting a punter in the 4th, because we had a huge need. We literally had no one.

But to answer your question, with a bit of a twist...with the 4th round pick I would have instead drafted...Jalen Hurd! When we got ready to pick in the 3rd, and Chase Winovich was still on the board, that is who I was hoping strongly for. He would have been my pick in the 3rd, and I feel strongly that Hurd would still have been available at our pick in the 4th. I probably would have waited until the 6th to grab a punter, which means we would have lost out on Kaden Smith instead.

Here's another way to loot at it though. Imagine if we had waited until the 5th round to draft a punter? And missed out on Dre Greenlaw. Or even later in the 6th and missed out on Justin Skule?

Just look at the picks again. Are you really b***hed about us taking the best punter in the draft when you look at the other picks?

You sure he was the best Punter in the draft?

He was at the time of drafting. Not sure that hindsight judgement has any value.
Though not a traditional draft pick, them picking up Brunskill after the AAF folded has been so good.
Will be extremely impressive if we draft this well next year.

AAF was good to us...Damontre Moore and Daniel Brunskill.
While I commend Kyle, Lynch and the scouts for a good draft I'm not about to think that they will draft like that every year. This upcoming one could be a real downer with no 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounder and the fact that we'll be picking late in the round.

Last time we won the super bowl, we were starting a rookie at OLB, that had been taken in the 6th round, he was fast but undersized, named Lee Woodall. Dre Greenlaw, Lee Woodall....

We also had a great rookie lineman, Bryant Young #97, like Nick Bosa, #97.

Let history repeat itself.

And that specific super bowl was in Miami
