For the love of god, I hope Witherspoon doesn't get in the game.

I can't talk bad about Cully. He's a Gamecock like me

Those PIs were bs

Just Flaggo throwing it up for grabs

Every Super Bowl has bad calls. On that kickoff return they had there was holding on multiple levels and no calls for Balt.

The difference with this team and that one is bad calls would doom that team. Harbs would go nuclear and throw everything and it would take a while to recover. Shanny seems to have a calmer way of turning the page and moving on.
2019>>>>>2012, it's younger, better coached, more athletic/diverse in scheme, the defense is more well rounded, and imo their demeanor is looser

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is how the 2012 team got off to slow starts in that playoffs. It was frustrating to watch going down 17-0 in Atlanta and having to fight and claw just to get back into the game. I know people get upset about the playcalling on the last drive in the Super Bowl but we came out totally unprepared and flat in that game. I still feel like we were the better team, and to get behind 28-6 made it seem like they weren't ready. If it weren't for the power outage I think Baltimore may have kept rolling. Injuries to our front (Aldon/Justin) exposed the secondary.

Our team this year has jumped on their playoff opponents early, and pounded them into submission. This last week is the most confident I've ever felt going into a playoff game, I felt pretty sure we'd win by double digits, as long as we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot with mistakes.

Something I've always wondered since the 2012 playoffs is if Harbaugh's intensity gets to his teams, and makes them tighten up in big moments. One reason I think our current regime has a chance to be sustainable is Shanahan's unflappable demeanor. I'm sure he gets going in meetings, but it rarely shows on the sidelines and never comes out to the media

This year's team is better and it's not really close. Gore, Willis, Bowman, and Smith aside this team is equal or better.

Just looking at the lineups: (Bold indicates the player I believe to be better)

QB - Colin Kaepernick or Jimmy Garoppolo
RB - Frank Gore or Raheem Mostert
FB - Bruce Miller or Kyle Juszczyk
WR - Michael Crabtree / Randy Moss or Deebo Samuel / Manny Sanders
TE - Vernon Davis or George Kittle
LT - Joe Staley '12 or Joe Staley '19
LG - Mike Iupati or Laken Tomlinson
C - Jonathan Goodwin or Ben Garland
RG - Alex Boone or Mike Person
RT - Anthony Davis or Mike McGlinchey

DE - Justin Smith or Arik Armstead
NT - Isaac Sopoaga or Sheldon Day
DT/DE - Ray McDonald or DeForrest Buckner
RUSH - Aldon Smith or Dee Ford
SAM/SILB - NaVorro Bowman or Kwon Alexander
MIKE/WILB - Patrick Willis or Fred Werner
WILL - Ahmad Brooks or Dre Greenlaw
CB - Carlos Rogers/Tarell Brown or Richard Sherman/Emmanuel Mosley
FS - Dashon Goldson or Jimmie Ward
SS - Donte Whitner or Jaquiski Tartt

What do you guys think?

I think you left Nick Bosa off the 2019 team completely
The 2012 team was really good at winning individual matchups, but this 2019 team is just a well oiled machine with insane chemistry. Definitely more than the sum of its parts.
would've been interesting to see the 2019 team match up against the LOB seahawks
Here's how would rank our SB teams:

Really, the 84/85 team is below the 88/89 team, that's surprising.
Team on the whole? 2019, no doubt. Healthier on defense here at the end, too.

2019 just passed 2011 to be my second favorite season of watching the 49ers week-to-week. (Started to follow them through the season in 1992 when I was 13).

My Top 5 of 1992-2019 (Didn't watch as closely 1998-2001 because of college)

1. 1994 - Nothing will ever top this season for me, probably.
2. 2019 - Just a wonderful season no matter how it ends in two weeks
3. 2011 - To be good again out of nowhere was just a joy, despite the heartbreak ending.
4. 2012 - If it wasn't for the drama of the QB change it would have been better than 2011, but that depressed a great season a little; the ending didn't help
5. 1992 - Great year for the team after an injury filled "down" 10-6 1991 where they missed the playoffs. Helps that it was the first year I followed week-to-week.

The way they blew out teams in the playoffs, was historic

3-4 vs 4-3
Ranking the 49er teams that made the SB:

1. 1989
2. 1984 (honestly the Top 2 are a toss-up. Both dominant teams)
3. 1994
4. 1981
5. 1988
6. 2019 ** Can go up the list with a W in SB LIV
7. 2012

Makes sense. I was looking at the entire season. That 84 team really should have been undefeated.
