Makes sense. I was looking at the entire season. That 84 team really should have been undefeated.
Plus, that team was very close to pulling off the 3-peat

2019 is definitely more enjoyable to watch.

2019, hands down.
Okay, LB was better then, but d-line 2019 is way better, way more disruption and pass rush ability.
At the end of the day, one cannot compare these squads due to different systems.
However, offense 2019 >>>> 2012. No room for comparison whatsoever.

Even if they don't win the Super Bowl this team is better. They hold the edge at almost every position on offense and have a far more innovative play caller in Shanahan than Roman ever was during that period. In addition Shanahan isn't a f**king psychopath which puts him head and shoulders above Harbaugh and means that he and Lynch will have a chance to be around for awhile to help insure that the team remains competitive for the next several years. The dynamic between Harbaugh and Baalke and York never would have made that possible. The only question is which defense is better and I think that is a legitimate debate that people who are interested in splitting those kinds of hairs are free to engage in.
There is an article in the newsfeed today saying that York seems willing to extend Lynch and Shanahan right now if that is what they want. Apparently all three of them get along and possess a shared vision of what they want the team to be and how best to get them there, so that's good. I think one of the keys to being successful in this league is having stability and vision at the top, which is why New England and Pittsburgh have remained relevant for so many years. That is what I would like to see happen with the 49ers.

Just looking at the lineups: (Bold indicates the player I believe to be better)
QB - Colin Kaepernick or Jimmy Garoppolo
RB - Frank Gore or Raheem Mostert
FB - Bruce Miller or Kyle Juszczyk
WR - Michael Crabtree / Randy Moss or Deebo Samuel / Manny Sanders
TE - Vernon Davis or George Kittle
LT - Joe Staley '12 or Joe Staley '19
LG - Mike Iupati or Laken Tomlinson
C - Jonathan Goodwin or Ben Garland
RG - Alex Boone or Mike Person
RT - Anthony Davis or Mike McGlinchey
DE - Justin Smith or Arik Armstead
NT - Isaac Sopoaga or Sheldon Day
DT/DE - Ray McDonald or DeForrest Buckner
RUSH - Aldon Smith or Dee Ford
SAM/SILB - NaVorro Bowman or Kwon Alexander
MIKE/WILB - Patrick Willis or Fred Werner
WILL - Ahmad Brooks or Dre Greenlaw
CB - Carlos Rogers/Tarell Brown or Richard Sherman/Emmanuel Mosley
FS - Dashon Goldson or Jimmie Ward
SS - Donte Whitner or Jaquiski Tartt
What do you guys think?
I think you left Nick Bosa off the 2019 team completely
He's technically a backup, though he has been playing more snaps than Dee Ford since Fords injury and return. But either one I would take over Aldon Smith (though Aldon was very good as well)

I would be worried about their pass rush vs the niners o line

Really, the 84/85 team is below the 88/89 team, that's surprising.
The way they blew out teams in the playoffs, was historic
Honestly this year's team and the 13 team had better players than the 81 team. The 81 team won on heart and scheme. Other than that, I pretty much agree. 88 and 89 we had more talent than any other team out there and it wasn't really close.

Even though that 2012 team had some names on it this team puts much more pressure on the QB and is more creative at moving guys around the D- line and in calling offensive plays. Hope they prove it on the field.

The defensive names with the exception of Justin Smith were linebackers. We didn't have an amazing pass rush except for 1 year with Aldon.

The 2012 scheme had about 6 or 7 guys that will be considered for the HOF. Frank Gore, Joe Staley, Justin Smith, NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Randy Moss and maybe even Vernon Davis (probably not)
This team has Sherman, Staley (a lesser version) and maybe Kittle one day if he continues to play at this level for a long time.
I think it's much closer than some say ITT.
I do agree this team seems to have something special about it that I didn't feel with that team though

Honestly I think '88 is a little too high.
That was the one team that got hot at the absolute right time. The rest were great throughout the season.

Well it is a SB ranking, not a regular season one.

It's probably that this is the best physical team in the league. While in 2012 it was the Ravens who were that.
