Better team 2019 or 2012?

Shop Find 49ers gear online
In 2012, we lost games by scores of 24-13, 26-3 and 42-13.

2019 team is more consistent and competitive. Lost all three of our games by 13 combined points.

Just looking at the lineups: (Bold indicates the player I believe to be better)

QB - Colin Kaepernick or Jimmy Garoppolo
RB - Frank Gore or Raheem Mostert
FB - Bruce Miller or Kyle Juszczyk
WR - Michael Crabtree / Randy Moss or Deebo Samuel / Manny Sanders
TE - Vernon Davis or George Kittle
LT - Joe Staley '12 or Joe Staley '19
LG - Mike Iupati or Laken Tomlinson
C - Jonathan Goodwin or Ben Garland
RG - Alex Boone or Mike Person
RT - Anthony Davis or Mike McGlinchey

DE - Justin Smith or Arik Armstead
NT - Isaac Sopoaga or Sheldon Day
DT/DE - Ray McDonald or DeForrest Buckner
RUSH - Aldon Smith or Dee Ford
SAM/SILB - NaVorro Bowman or Kwon Alexander
MIKE/WILB - Patrick Willis or Fred Werner
WILL - Ahmad Brooks or Dre Greenlaw
CB - Carlos Rogers/Tarell Brown or Richard Sherman/Emmanuel Mosley
FS - Dashon Goldson or Jimmie Ward
SS - Donte Whitner or Jaquiski Tartt

What do you guys think?

This is a straight up goofy way to look at it. You're not looking for the 11 best, you're looking for the best 11. The best TEAM between the two is 2019
The NFL generally comes down to your coaching and QB play. 2019 wins this by a country mile.

Harbaugh and Kap were f**king idiots compared to Kyle and Jimmy.

I think people have a sense of nostalgia with the 2011-2013 teams and overvalue what they did. Winning games was like pulling teeth.

Our identity back in those years oscillated between being the 85 bears or some gimmick mountain West college offense.

No thank you.

That team went to 3 strait NFC championship games...not sure how that's overvalued?
Coaching=2019
QB=2019
Running back =2012
Fullback=2019
Receivers =2019
Tight end=2019
O-line =tie
Kick returner =2019

D-line=2019
Linebackers=2012
Secondary =2019
Special teams=2019

Plus no way Kyle Williams makes this roster.

They were good and playing with a MAJOR handicap. You had to hide the QB (both of them). You know how hard that is in the NFL to make NFC Championship games and the Super Bowl with that? This is what the Harbaugh haters never get. He was playing with a garbage pile at QB and STILL somehow made NFC Championship games and the Super Bowl. Further if Justin Smith and Aldon Smith did not BOTH show up to the Super Bowl with torn up arms we may have possibly won. Actually Harbaugh did an incredible job given the circumstances.

But that era is over. Jimmy G is light years better than that at QB. Shanahan is really a smart innovative coach who knows how to scheme. We are happy to have him. Who cares about all this era to era stuff? Here we are now and this is a good team. So lets go and try to win one.

I think Harbaugh was/is a great coach . I like this staff better top to bottom though.

2012 was trash led by Scapernick.

Yeah, that was a great run. We were the best team in the NFL for 3 years. Its a shame we didnt get a Super Bowl. We gave one away in 2011 (Kyle Williams) and got caught in what was the greatest post season of All-Time by Joe Flacco, a guy who never played like that before or since. We were better from top to bottom than that Baltimore team. Like I have said ITT there were at least 6 guys who will get HOF consideration on that roster, maybe more with Vernon Davis being a "maybe"

By 2013 the young Seattle squad may have surpassed us, especially given the adjustments teams made to slow down Kap. But over that span no team was better.

I think you could make this case for 2011, the first half of 2012 and 2013. But when Kap took over midway through the 2012 season the NFL simply had no answer for him. He was Lamar Jackson before Lamar Jackson. He was completing 62.4% of his passes, had a 10-3 TD to INT ratio, had a 98.3 QB Rating and was an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses. He absolutely blitzed GB in the playoffs. Pulled off a comeback against Atlanta and almost did it again in the Super Bowl against a very good defense.

The QB was our strength for half of 2012 and Harbaugh was doing a great job of utilizing that weapon.

I think I would go:

Coaching=2019

QB=Push
Running back =2012
Fullback=2019
Receivers =Push
Tight end=2019
O-line =2012
Kick returner =2012 (Ted Ginn)

D-line=2019
Linebackers=2012
Secondary =2012
Special teams=Push (Andy Lee was better than Wish but David Akers '12 wasnt as good as Gould '19)
