Beathard is as good as gone. His salary is over a million and he can be replaced in the draft. Mullens may be gone too. He is an exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) that I could see us either tendering and trading or not even trying to resign. I also have to wonder about Dante Pettis. With Richie James owning the return duties and both Trent Taylor and Jaylen Hurd coming back from injury our receiver room is suddenly crowded. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pettis sent somewhere else for draft picks.

Slice eem up
Why are we cutting a 3rd round rookie deal contract in Spoon?

As pissed as people were with him for his struggles late in the year before his injury he was our best corner. Absolutely no need to cut the kid.

Best case scenario he finally puts it together and stays there and we get him signed long term. If not he has a chance to sign somewhere else to see if the light comes on for a possible comp pick the following year.

Agreed on Pettis, depending on how many draft picks we have to give up for some other team to take whiskers off our hands, haha

trading thomas to the Patriots for a 6th or 7th Round Pick

Unless you are suggesting that we use our first pick on a qb, it would be foolhardy to take a highly rated team into next season with the 2nd string qb being an untried, untested rookie taken somewhere in the middle or lower reaches of the draft. Why would we not resign Mullens? This comment I just don't understand. As a backup qb he has put in some very good performances. He will be cheap to keep and he knows the system. By letting both of them walk we have to use at least one of our precious picks this year on a position currently considered a strength. And in return we save peanuts. I would have thought our recent injury history would have underscored the need for the best possible depth at this key position.

By the way, I haven't seen Beathard play for ages. Neither has anyone else outside of the team. So I have no idea how you can write him off. If he has made no progress I would imagine that this summer we will see the back of him. But we just don't know.
