Was a bandwagon fan back then as a teen. on top of that red was my favorite color.
1995 the Niners were on my radar due to the SB win. red color. Since then I am a Niner. plain and simple.

I believe it was 1984 - I was about 8 years old. I lived in Southern California with my grandparents who were huge Rams fans. They always had us dressed up in Rams gear. The family would get together to watch the Rams games often and, when they did, the kids were not to be in the house (though this was at a time when the kids didnt want to be in the house). Regardless, those few hours each week were a little irritating for us kids out of principal I suppose- which kid likes rules, especially those imposed due to a sporting event on TV?
So I walked in the house to use the restroom and everyone was visibly agitated at what was going on with the game, and I was quickly asked what the heck i was doing in the house, but in an abrasive manner. After letting them know, i went and did my thing. On the way out of the house i stopped to take a look at what was going on with the game for everyone to be so pissed off. The 49ers were beating the brakes off of the Rams, who had zero points at that time in the game.
"If you're done you can get outside!" I was told. How is a kid supposed to respond without disrespecting the adults to the point where i would be grounded back to my room or some other discipline-prompting outburst? That's when it happened, to the angry wide eyes of all my family as they turned to me whiled I hurried out the door as I yelled.....
"Go 49ers!"

You don't choose who you fall in love with it just happens. As a kid my dad and I didn't have many things in common but loving football was one. He was a huge Joe Montana Fan and at halftime of the '89 (played in 1990) Super Bowl I broke my arm trying to emulate Jerry rice by diving for a pass in the back yard with my cousins. I was just a small kid but from that moment on I was hooked. I spent the second half in physical agony (incredibly I wasn't taken to the ER until the following day) but in pure emotional bliss after we completed the domination of the Broncos.

The Catch; I live in Southern California, but I was never a Rams fan, and the Raiders hadn't moved here yet. Watching the 9ers beat Dallas in the NFC championship in '81 then go on to win the Super Bowl turned me into a fan. Needless to say, I got spoiled like all fans during those glory years, so losing two is a bit hard to take.

Came in on the Hayne Plane. Stayed for the Boomin' Onion. This game is addictive. Love this team. Sunday (Monday my time) hurt way more than it reasonably should.

Living in Switzerland, back then.the only game you could get was the Super Bowl.... it happened that my first ever game I saw was SB XXIII. That was it... became an instant fan of that team !
Little I knew back then how lucky I was to be able to admire those players and that coach...the importance of Montana, Walsh, Lott, Rathman, Craig, Rice and many others, to the game of football.
I didn't fully realize that until many years later.
Still a niner fan despite all the dark times and this heartbreaking loss.

long story short :
a Lou Sahadi book on superbowl XVI brought back to Belgium by my older brother in 1982, the superbowl XIX win that got highlighted on belgian french speaking TV famous sports show in january 1985 and a curious and distant dream that San Francisco represented to me at that time when i was 12.
BTW i.m a niner fanatic that bought tickets and made the trans atlantic trip to super bowl 47 and 54, home and away regular season games in Candlestick, Levi's and Arizona.
I guess i'm not their lucky charm them being 0-2 in super bowls i have attended...
i considered myself an educated football fan. I'm talking about football not soccer
i'm regularly in the top 10 of pick'hem and i have won a 49erswebzone prize a few years ago
And my first impression during and after SB54 is that Kyle blew it, but the game changer was clearly the 3rd and 15 pass to Hill.
GEAUX NINERS ;-)

Moved to the bay area in 85 when the navy assigned me to the USS Enterprise in Alameda. Got military housing in Novato and caught that 49er fever!

Montana to Rice. Ronnie Lott was emasculating manhoods. Charles Haley (didn't know about in house antics) John Taylor. The colors/Name. Steve Young. Brent Jones. What's not to fall in love with back then. Ride or Die.

My dad was a huge Niner fan and he told me it's either the Niners or get out!! I was thirteen and it worked out pretty well since I got to see the first super bowl win a few years later. Haha
