This is me in my full Niner uniform. Would have been around '87 I think. The NFL was huge in the UK during this time and all the kids in my class went crazy for it. I picked the 49ers because (I think) my best friend liked them, and obviously because they were an excellent team. Something about the gold helmets too. Classy.

Proud of my kids and the young men on the team
Your kids are already better fans than most on this site. Good for you dad. I know for me I fell in love with watching Joe and Jerry play. I have hazy memories of Miami and then Joe getting destroyed by Jim Burt. Joe then dominating 87 but just looking inept and benched against Minnesota. That's right Jimmy G haters Montana looked horrible in a big game but bounced back to win 2 more SBs. 88 was one of my favorite season because for a lot of that year we didn't know if they would make the playoffs. Joe had to split time with Steve. It was weird. God I love the Niners and am from a family where the Niners were the ONLY bay area team that mattered.

When I was a kid about 7 or 8 years old, the 49ers were the ONLY pro sports team in the Bay Area. Imagine, no Giants, Warriors, A's, Raiders or Sharks. Just the 49ers. I grew up listening to Bob Fouts ( Dans father ) and Lon Simmons on the radio. Not all the games were televised back then. Been a fan now for 65 years.

Because of the team colours and name mostly. I didn't know much about this kind of football until late 90s though thanks to my stepfather. Now it's niners 4life.
My stepfather was a raiders fan too so it made it even sweeter choosing the niners.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio. In the early 80's my mom sent me to school in a 49ers T-shirt with Roger Craig on it. Everyone would ask me what team it was so I started watching and became a fan.

Born in 81, moved to England around 86. Niners were one of a few teams that rotated on Channel 4, saw this Montana guy, thought he was pretty good. Been a fan ever since.

Discovered (american) football around 2010, was looking for my favorite team for a few years and then Kaep had that 50+ yards run vs Packers...

Born in 1986 in SJ, and my dad was a huge fan. Never knew any different, so they've been my team for my entire life. Started actually paying attention around 1992 ish, started following fanatically in 1995. I remember watching the 94 SB, but being too conditioned to winning to really appreciate it. If only I knew 25 years later id still be waiting.

Born and raised in LA but I had a lot of family in SF. When I was 5 in 87, two cousins up there had 49ers refrigerator magnets and posters. They asked me which football team I like. I said none since I only watch basketball and the Lakers. They said that going forward I will like the 49ers and never cheer for the LA Raider or LA Rams. I said ok. I fell in love after that. Even made my dad get me a pair of the Joe Montana L.A. Gear Street Hike shoes. Those shoes sucked but I wanted them because of Joe.
