2021 90-Man Roster:
Starter --- Depth

Offensive Personnel: --- 33
QB: Jimmy Garoppolo; Josh Rosen (ERFA) & Nick Mullens (RFA)

Comments: Unless there is a clear upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo and his skill set, I'd expect the FO to stand pat with familiarity. I'd resign C.J. BeatHard to a low end deal to complete with ERFA Josh Rosen for the #2. If a more talented QB can be added to the pool via the draft or free agency, by all means.

RB: Raheem Mostert; JaMycal Hasty & Austin Walter (ERFA) & Jeff Wilson Jr. (RFA)
FB: Josh Hokit

Comments: Mostert recently had his deal redone. He missed games. No need to redo another deal. Tender Wilson and resign Jerick McKinnon (3rd down back who is an excellent pass protector) and Kyle Juszyzck, who is priority in free agency.

TE: George Kittle; Charlie Woerner, Chase Harrell & Ross Dwelley (RFA)

Comments: Charlie Woerner was supposed to be Levine Toilolo 2.0. That clearly didn't happen. With Kittle out, the run blocking was poor. Tender Dwelley and look for a big upgrade as an edge run blocker. I'd also bring back a healthy Jordan Reed or look to a great pass catching TE in the draft. Don't roll our Jalen Hurd here.

XWR: Brandon Aiyuk; Travis Benjamin, Matt Cole & Kevin White
SWR: Richie James; Chris Thompson, Austin Proehl & River Cracraft (ERFA)
ZWR/F: Deebo Samuel; Jalen Hurd & Jauan Jennings

Comments: This group has a ton of potential barring health which has been a big issue. Aside from health, Kyle badly needs a true 4.3 speed threat at XWR from the draft late and combo top punt returner. I would not bring back either Kendrick Bourne (unless very cheap) or Trent Taylor.

LT: Justin Skule; Shon Coleman
LG: Laken Tomlinson; Isaiah Williams
C: Weston Richburg; Jake Brendel & Daniel Brunskill (ERFA)
RG: Colton McKivitz; Dakoda Shepley
RT: Mike McGlinchey

Comments: Trent Williams is elite and he's the top priority FA. He's going to cost around $20M APY. I'd only bring back Ben Garland on a low end deal. Right now there is 1 elite OL if resigned, 2 one-trick solid starters and a lot of versatile depth (non starters). This group badly needs an infusion of talent via the draft and free agency and Richjured should be cut or restructured down to a depth player only at this point.

Defensive Personnel: --- 26
LDE/W9: Arik Armstead; Dee Ford & Alex Barrett
2i: Darrion Daniels; Josiah Coatney
3T: Javon Kinlaw ; Kevin Givens & Kentavius Street
RDE/W9: Nick Bosa; Daeshon Hall

Comments: You can't run a Wide-9 without 2 edge rushers. Kerry Hyder Jr., Ronald Blair III and D.J. Jones need to be entertained but only at low-ball deals. Tender Alex Barrett but this group needs real ER talent from the draft and it might be at 12 overall.

SAM: Azeez Al-Shaair/Marcell Harris (RFA); Mark Nzeocha
MIKE: Fred Warner; Jonas Griffith
WILL: Dre Greenlaw; Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles

Comments: Fred Warner could certainly use an extension but it probably won't be until next year. Right now, a LB can be Franchise Taggged/Transition Tagged @ $16.2M/$14M. This group is in great shape esp. with the gains both Harris and Al-Shaair made at SAM.

RCB: Adonis Alexander; Emmanuel Moseley (RFA)
SCB: Ken Webster (ERFA)
LCB: Tim Harris Jr.
FS: Tarvarius Moore; Chris Edwards & Kai Nacua (ERFA)
SS: Jimmie Ward; Obi Melifonwu & Marcell Harris (RFA)

Comments: Jason Verrett and K'Waun Williams are top free agent priorities as well. Jamar Taylor can now be a cheap option for depth with his late ACL injury. Tender Moseley and Harris. Don't be surprised if 12 overall was used here either. Let Ahkello Witherspoon test free agency. Low ball deal only.

Special Teams: --- 3
LS: Taybor Pepper (RFA)
PK: Robbie Gould
P: Mitch Wishnowsky

KOR: X & X
PR: X; X
GR: Azeez Al-Shaair & Tarvarious Moore

Comments: I'd tender Taybor and the specialists will be set. This unit is missing a quality ST Coach and Returner. ST's were terrible in 2020.

Overall: It's a solid playoff caliber deep roster with 'health' that could use an infusion of talent at a couple key spots (QB, OL, ER & CB) while retaining many of their own. Don't expect much of anything from any outside free agents.

2021 UFA:
QB C.J. Beathard
RB Jerick McKinnon

SS Jaquiski Tartt

I doubt Shanny is bringing back Reed. I hope they don't bring back Jet he is easily replaceable.

Why would Shanny not re-sign Reed?

Also for NC, I don't see them tendering Dwelley or Pepper, better to try and get them to sign cheaper deals.

Reed had a blow-up I believe during the Washington game. He didn't see the field while healthy in the season finale. I think he was having a me, me gripe fest.

Totally agree. With most of those I'd try to resign them to lower the cap hits.

If that's true, then he's certainly in the Shanahan dog house and nobody survives the Shanahan doghouse.

As a runner yes, but as a 3rd down pass catcher another year healthier and pass protector, that's harder to replace.

We have basically two players who are consistently high pass protectors: Trent Williams and Jerick McKinnon.

No need to clear and restructure deals like they have if they planned on moving on from Jimmy Garoppolo.

It's official. They're trading for watson.

I dunno. If that's not a hint, I don't know what is.

I can see adding another 10 to 12 million with restructures and cuts. Plus keep hearing the cap may not dip as much as originally thought. I don't see any reason why we can resign our FAs that we want to keep plus maybe one big splash in FA.

For that money I would rather have Frank back. He is amazing in pass protection plus what a wealth of information he can provide the running backs room.

That he is. Love me some Frank! If we were an inside zone team vs. outside, I'd be all over it, personally.

Same. For what McKinnon offers, I'd rather have Gore too.

That's easy. Cut them both. Unless they want to agree to a deal that puts his pay at veteran minimum plus incentives.
