As a runner yes, but as a 3rd down pass catcher another year healthier and pass protector, that's harder to replace.

We have basically two players who are consistently high pass protectors: Trent Williams and Jerick McKinnon.

For that money I would rather have Frank back. He is amazing in pass protection plus what a wealth of information he can provide the running backs room.

That he is. Love me some Frank! If we were an inside zone team vs. outside, I'd be all over it, personally.

Same. For what McKinnon offers, I'd rather have Gore too.

I can see adding another 10 to 12 million with restructures and cuts. Plus keep hearing the cap may not dip as much as originally thought. I don't see any reason why we can resign our FAs that we want to keep plus maybe one big splash in FA.

That's easy. Cut them both. Unless they want to agree to a deal that puts his pay at veteran minimum plus incentives.

Yup. Restructure down to backup pay AND only if th pass a physical with flying colors.
I think the most important part this team needs is a healthy RB. We have proven we can dominate when our RB's are 100%. Wilson had a freak high ankle and he seems to be our most reliable RB.

Mostert is not reliable in terms of health. He makes for a perfect 3rd down back or change of pace.

lol any RB we put in there seems to do very well. I think RB is the least of our worries because of the system. Jamycal Hasty could probably be our 1st stringer if needed.
The worst thing we did was restructure contracts of injury prone players. That royally f___ed us because we pushed money back to players who won't even be able to see the field going forward or at least be at their original level. So we are paying duds a ton of money to either to sit on the bench or underperform because we pushed their money back which also gave us no room to sign anyone else.

If we're going to restructure guys, restructure healthy players who have a future here. Stop sabotaging the future by gambling with guys who can't stay on the field. Period.

The team at this point just needs to eat its mistakes and cut Richburg and Ford. The dead money will suck, but you can draft a cheap replacement that will help minimize and/or negate the large sum of dead money you took on. Think I'm gonna make a thread on this.

But this post is about what i feel they need to do if they do it.

Jimmy has to go trade or release, his 24m will be needed. Besthard or rosen can start the first few weeks.

They have to re sign trent, and get a top G. Possibly even a FA RT. The OL needs to be top notch to protect the rookie. Juice needs to be resigned, he will be needed as a security blanket.

Then they need to keep the D intact. Hyder, kwaun, moseley, spoon.

They will need people that can start early because they will have no draft, and a hell of a lot of UDFAs.
I am sorry but it's the 12 year old in me that could not resist.
I am not averse to bringing Tomsula back as the DC.

DL coach yes. Not DC please. He isn't good at defensive schemes.

Anyway, I doubt he wants to come back to SF after being fired as a HC.

Do we know who initiates these restructures? Is this squarely on JL? Especially being that the restructures weren't even needed.
HOWS ABOUT STAYING HEALTHY?

Actually the restructures that happened(Dee, Richburg, Kwon) were indeed NEEDED, or the team wouldn't have had any cap room, as for who initiates it, it's up to the team, they have every right to restructure a contract.

I'll just add that while i hope we can get rid of Richburg and Ford, I hope against all odds, both make a 100% recovery and play well enough to maybe save us a defensive and offensive draft pick in next years draft. But those odds are very long. Hyder's been great and I hope we can get one more in this years draft.
