Current Salary Cap Space: $11.58M
Remaining Salary Cap Space Needed: $36M (includes -$11.58M and Kittle/Buckner extension differences in 2020 APY and outlined deals below; does not include rookie cap pool)

Per AB (Jason Hurley) at 49erscap , we could save $36M with contract restructures:
The 49ers will likely look into restructures, namely Jimmy Garoppolo, Joe Staley, and Dee Ford. They'd save over $19 million with a Garoppolo restructure, over $10 million with a Ford restructure, and over $7 million with a Staley restructure.

Tough decisions ahead...()

53-man Roster:
Offensive Personnel: --- 34
QB: Jimmy Garoppolo; Nick Mullens & C.J. BeatHard (we need to get BeatHard's contract off the books and certainly need to restructure Garoppolo's contract)
RB: Raheem Mostert; Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida, Jeff Wilson Jr. & Jerick McKinnon (McKinnon needs to rework his deal down, Coleman & Wilson should be gone)

TE/F: George Kittle; Ross Dwelley, Jalen Hurd & Daniel Helm (only room for 3 here this year)
XWR: Marquise Goodwin; Chris Thompson (need to cut Goodwin)
SWR: Kendrick Bourne; Trent Taylor & Richie James Jr. (might need to move on from James)
ZWR/F: Deebo Samuel; Dante Pettis (might need to move on from Pettis' contract)

SS: Jaquiski Tartt; Marcell Harris, Chris Edwards & Jermaine Kelly Jr.

Special Teams: --- 3
LS: Kyle Nelson
PK: Robbie Gould
P: Mitch Wishnowsky

Team Needs: LEO (Speed), IOL (C & RG), XWR (Speed), RCB, FS, LT (Future), TE2, SWR, ST (Returner)

Looks good except Holland and Rollins were 2019 signings.

As for reserve/future deals, most got 2 yr deals, only Kongbo got a 3yr deal, all minimum deals. Willie Henry Jr. got a 1yr $770K deal wth $35K in bonus money.

Leonard Wester, Teez Tabor, Derrick KIndred, Jake Brendel are the only reserve.future deals to get 1yr deals besides Henry.

Edit: never mind, got it!

I'll make those other corrections to the OP. Thanks!

Tartt was certainly in my list above for possible extensions as well. When I was going through your site, there's quite a few you could extend now and lower that cap or restructure into bonuses to lower the cap. They've already done two. If they don't plan on signing AA, there's not much more they need to do. If so, Sanders and Ward might walk. Or serious restructures will be needed to keep everyone, like you outlined.

When Tartt was in at SS, the defense looked so much better, I hope they keep him around, I wouldn't mind a Moore/Tartt combo.

A guy I'd love to trade for is Darius Slay, they could then move Sherm to FS at some point as speeds not his game, and Slay is a young #1 CB, would cost a lot of money, but a 2021 2nd could do it for compensation.

I hope they keep AA, but I get it, can't keep everyone, but AA looked so much better and improved in 2019, had like 2 or 3 sacks in post seasons I believe to go with his 10 reg season sacks.

If there is one group to invest in it's the DL, keep them around as long as possible, and keep Kwon, Dre, and Warner, Dre won't cost nearly as much as the other 2 long term IMO.

I'd cream my pants if we got Slay.

Interesting. I was listening to Eric Davis' podcast and he also mentioned Sherman moving to S...this year. That said, no way in hell could he play FS. He's way way too slow to be an Eraser in C3 and like you noted, Tartt is a quality SS.

I'd love to keep AA and the rest of the clan...gonna be tight. It's gonna be interesting in that office with ShanaLynch and Paraag.

Sherman is too slow to play safety - he's just lost too much speed.
Hey, it could happen.

Yeah, I'm not seeing Sherman as being fast enough to be really effective as a free safety. His smarts would help him get in the right position a fair amount in spite of his lack of speed, but there'd still be quite a lot of times where there's no substitute for speed.

Even with C2, I'm not really seeing it. But who knows.

So that makes him too slow to play corner as well since corners are usually faster than safety's. So what do we do with Sherman? Keep him at corner and hope the other team doesn't put a 4.35 receiver against him? Give him help by doubling?

Safety's don't need to be fast. They need to be smart and have good ball skills They need to be good tacklers since they're often the last line of defense. Sherman is all of those things. Merton Hanks was a great FS and only ran 4.74 at the combine. Dashon Goldson only ran 4.6. Even Ronnie Lott wasn't really fast which is one of the reasons he moved to FS. I think moving to FS would prolong Sherman's career but from what I hear he doesn't want to move.

Remain Faithful.

49ers

Lloyd Cushenberry III IOL, LSU

As we saw in the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers' interior offensive line struggled to contain the Kansas City Chiefs' pressure. Chris Jones was dominant throughout the game and collapsed the pocket on Jimmy Garoppolo time and time again. Getting a center like Lloyd Cushenberry III would be a great step towards upgrading that unit, especially in a division with defensive tackles like Aaron Donald and Jarran Reed.

The whole world knows now.

49ers

Cesar Ruiz IOL, Michigan

The 49ers made it to the Super Bowl but enter this offseason with plenty of question marks, one of them being the interior offensive line. With experience at both guard and center, he is a scheme-versatile prospect and offers positional flexibility. He's a bigger interior blocker, but he moves extremely well and thrives when connecting with moving targets in space. In the run game, Ruiz has all the tools to move bodies at the line of scrimmage and complements that with wonderful consistency executing longer pulls and releasing to the second level. His anchor is stout in pass protection and I love how naturally he recoils and maintains the depth of the pocket. Ruiz would solidify things up front for Kyle Shannahan's offense.
