Trump did this for the publicity after several former players, including Lott and Haley went there and asked him to do it. You know Trump, he''ll never miss an opportunity to pardon a celebrity and get his name out there. This will have no bearing on the Niner ownership. I don't know that Eddie is even interested in getting the team back but it would be up to the owners and the commissioner. I heard an interview with Eddie a couple years ago and he said he isn't interested in owning a team again because he's too involved with other parts of the DeBartolo business empire. Remember, when he took ownership at a young age, his father was running most of the business interests. Eddie's the SR guy now.

I don't consider myself a diehard Trump hater or even liberal (just pro-objective, more than anything else) but I don't really see the point of this. It happened 20 years ago and Eddie already paid all his dues.

The only thing I can think of is a handshake deal between the two, like "if you get this felony off my records, I'll donate to your campaign" or something.

Trump has pardoned other individuals before with much worse records than Eddie. So maybe this is just an attempt to be consistent?
