I don't like Trump either but my goodness.

Crying about everything Trump does is some peoples hobby.

Who cares about Meals on Wheels being cancelled. Who cares about Social Security being cut, and food stamps being cut. Because I certainly don't have any friends or relatives who could use them.

But we're going to sell the Oil Reserve to make up for it! That ought to put a dent in the $10000000000000 annual US budget deficit!

Billionaires don't go to prison. They just lose a few toys.

Bernie Madoff?

I'm glad Eddie D is getting out of prison and gets a second chance at life .

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with Eddie being in bad health or something.

lol Eddie wasnt in prison.

Lol I was like...what

I'm concerned that he became a gang banger while in the pen..... and If he kills someone it will be blood on Trumps hands .
Wasn't his cell mate Aaron Hernandez?

Aren't we all?
Does anyone care to recap Eddie's original offense? I was pretty young back then and didn't follow the details of the scandal. Doesn't it have something to do with River Boat Gambling?

Cliffs notes; bribed the then Governor of LA to grease the tracks for approval of a Riverboat Casino . . . IIRC

Was extorted by the LA Governor to the tune of $400k to obtain a river boat gambling license.

"In testimony leading to DeBartolo's admission, FBI agent Jeffrey Santini described an alleged two- year courtship in which DeBartolo at first resisted but then finally agreed last year to pay Edwards the money -- in crisp $100 bills -- to help him win the final riverboat license to be awarded by the state's gaming commission."

He failed to report the extortion which is a crime.

There it is.
Good for Eddie.

Not that he needed it but still glad it happened.

Now let's get back to Niner football!

To get his name cleared later in life or perhaps if he's feeling opportunistic, an interest in buying the Bucs? His primary residence is Tampa I believe.

Exactly.

The state was building a case against the governor for extortion, and in exchange for his testimony DeBartolo received a reduced sentence (a fine and two years probation).

Probably also worth reiterating is that DeBartolo didn't lose the 49ers directly because of this; the NFL just barred him from participating in active ownership for one year.

What happened was that Eddie and Denise were splitting their (inherited assets), and Denise took the 49ers and Eddie took the rest of the family businesses because Denise had independent wealth from her marriage to John York (who had founded and sold DeYor Laboratories), whereas Eddie didn't have assets independent of the family businesses.

As for Trump pardoning him, it's a dumb publicity stunt.

He applied for a riverboat casino license, the governor of Louisiana, Edwin Edwards, demanded a payment of $400k in order for it to be approved.

Its like the difference between being pulled over by a cop for running a red light and offering him a $100 to forget it ever happened versus the cop demanding $100 from you to get off with a warning.

Edit. That was harsh, even if it was funny. So I'll edit out my post.
