Does Jimmy G need to redeem himself from the SB?

I think shannen started panicking at the end of the second quarter. Lynch was even calling a timeout in the booth. JL should have benched Shanahan and took over coaching at that point and won the SB

He should've thrown it to staley and let staley get the game winning td

Just for fun Shanahan should let JL coach a preseason game

These are what Kyle shoulda done to Shanny !!

Does the question even need to be asked?
I hope he has enough receiving threats on offense. Hopefully Hurd and Taylor can come back and make an impact

If Hurd is healthy and takes off where he left off in the preseason last year he will be a receiving threat. I am sure he spent time in his season off learning as much as he could about Kyle's system. I just hope he gets plenty of time with Jimmy in the off season practicing and building chemistry. Same with Taylor. If they both come back to their potential Jimmy with have plenty of weapons.

Our elite defense had a team at 10 points half way through the fourth quarter against a team that hadn't scored less than 20 points all year except once... our defense held more than their own, and anyone thinking we needed only 20 points to be the chiefs in the Super Bowl was being ignorant, to put it nicely.

Also you are correct, it wouldn't of been a 2 score game. I didn't notice that. Regardless, punt, punt, missed sanders = sack, and then interception is nothing to be happy nor excited about. Jimmy g had 4 opportunities/drive with this offense, and not one of those drives ended with points. That is simply not allowed vs that chiefs offense. We can sit here and say our elite defense should have held them, but that chiefs offense was also insanely good. We couldn't have nor should have expected our defense to outplay them for 4 quarters. Our defense wrecked their offense for 3 1/2 quarters. Sorry but that's all you can really ask of any defense vs that offense

So you expected the D to give up 21 straight pts in the final 7 minutes, and it was the offenses job to outpace them?

This was a defense first team, and we got them a 10 pt lead into the 4th quarter. That should've been enough.

It was the anemic offense's job to outpace the defense the entire game but they didn't do that despite the defense essentially shutting down Mahomes for 3 1/2 qtrs. Defense wins championships by giving the ball back to the offense and that's exactly what they did so the offense had more than enough opportunities to build a substantial lead but KS/JG couldn't do it. They had to come from behind to take a lead, barely did so and then lost it b/c they couldn't score. KS played scared with no killer instinct and the moment proved to be too big for JG. The 49ers #2 scoring offense scored 10 pts less than their season average despite having two weeks to prepare for an average Spags D, JG choked on 3 consecutive possessions late in the game and his stats like his passer rating in the 4th qtr were the worst out of all 42 SB qbs in the last 20 years. Only Vince Young was worse in 1999/2000. I like JG but that's an OFFENSIVE problem.

Ruggs would of caught that with his 4.3 speed. Jimmy is just a year ahead of the curve.

Hell yea...i can close my eyes and just watch that ball sail over Sanders head.

People focus on that play way too much. It would've been a tough deep ball to drop over top of the coverage, and even if he hit Sanders, Mahomes had been moving the ball at will against our D, and would've had nearly 2 minutes to answer.

Bruh to miss a wide open wr that would give you the lead isn't focusing too much. Maybe the defense gets a turnover and closes it out. Maybe they fumble the kickoff.

Can we stop calling Sanders a wide open WR?

He was open. Tyreek Hill on 3rd and 15 was wide open.

Garoppolo's throw to Sanders was a MUCH tougher throw than Mahomes' pass to Hill.

Come on with the semantics bruh. Jimmy failed us in that moment anyway you want to slice it.

Yep, and he quickly admitted he overthrew him.

bottom line is ... jimmy played good enough last year for the team to get to the super bowl and almost win it. problem is ... when you get to the super bowl you have to make plays in crunch time to win the game. Mahomes made plays down the stretch and jimmy didn't .... it's as simple as that. the bad part about last year is its hard to get back the next year. I'm expecting 10-6 and playoffs next year but no super bowl and then there will be the question..... what do we do next. I don't know at this point.

Agreed, the moment was too big for JG and not for PM which isn't surprising considering PM has more playing experience than JG including KC's playoff run and AFC CG last year against the Pats. I still have confidence that JG will improve provided the IOL and the WR corp improve.
