Yeah what would stop a player from saying he's injured for 6 games? Then not playing the rest

Probably nothing since it would be hard to say he is not injured. Player could say they are suffering from back issues. But it would not look good across the league and would hurt his image.
Anyone know if he practiced?

Especially if the 49ers are destroying teams and it looks like we don't need him.

He needs to practice signing his name to a contract.

Dude is just gonna play on his 5th year option and leave next season

He cant just leave...expect a franchise tag and trade

Doesn't his injury have to be verified by team and an outside doctor?

No
We spend more time now talking about technical issues, contracts and holdouts than we do football.

Future paycheck. If he only plays 10 games and isn't magnificent in those 10 games, people will call last year a fluke and he won't be paid as though that is what he can do. 28m will likely become 24m for any extension. So then he will have to play under the tag for us or another team and prove it again...or take an even smaller extension.

And if he's only playing 10 games, he probably won't be magnificent. Even if he's in football shape, he's completely dependent on chemistry with Purdy.

Weird argument. Aiyuk is still under contract/. One that was bargained for by the players union. Aiyuks the only one trying to "have his cake and eat it too."

They can also IR him for the season if he says he is injured and tell him maybe we will tag you and hope you are healthy next season. Enjoy rehab or whatever

At this point in time I'm for this option.

Which brings us back to my initial point. You'd get NOTHING from him this year and almost guaranteed to be a worse pick than the 33/34 NE offered at the draft.

So we'd get a worse pick with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Still would probably get a 3rd round comp pick at worse. He would still get a decent contact when he hist FA, but would also probably lose a lot of money.

I am good with that outcome.
