This is terrible business on Paraag and the 49ers behalf.

Being able to afford Aiyuk at his asking price was never an issue. He wasn't trying to reset the WR market like Lamb. Paraag and his analytics department simply didn't value Aiyuk where the market also values him. While they were telling Aiyuk he wasn't worth $26 or $27 million, they were telling other teams inquiring about his availability that he was one of the top wide receivers in the league and warranted first-round pick compensation at a minimum. In case anyone forgot, the 49ers called up the Vikings to try and trade for Justin Jefferson. They would have absolutely paid him the bag he got from Minnesota.

During the negotiations, the 49ers ran the same game they ran on Gould in 2019, Kittle in 2020, Deebo in 2022, and Bosa in 2023. Lowball them in the spring, ghost them when they laugh off the offer, re-engage in the summer, and cave to their demands as the deadline to get a deal done approaches. All they've done is pay more in the end when they could have been more reasonable in the beginning.

The 49ers really never agreed with Aiyuk's asking price until they started exhausting their other options. Aiyuk nixed the only trade that would have gotten the 49ers a wide receiver to replace him with the Cooper-Browns trade (which was an insane cap move from the Browns perspective imo). They couldn't get the Raiders to take a lowball offer on Adams. They couldn't get the Broncos to take a lowball offer on Sutton. They were still calling around to multiple teams trying to find a replacement receiver for Aiyuk this past week leading up to the extension being agreed to. The Patriots offered $32 million because money is the only appeal they can offer, not because Aiyuk was demanding it. Contrary to the belief of some, Aiyuk did tell the Patriots he was not interested in signing that extension.

At the end of the negotiation, the 49ers did what they always do. They caved and paid more than they needed to for dragging this out. While most sit here and say "all this for that contract", that's what Aiyuk and his agent were fighting the 49ers for. Aiyuk and his agent were able to negotiate the 49ers up from $22 million to $30 million APY, which is more than what they wanted when the negotiations started and what they wanted in the end. They got the guarantees they wanted. The got the cash flow they wanted. They got a structure that allows them to renegotiate another contract when he's 29.

So finally took time to watch 2023 highlights of D.J. Moore (avg $27mill per year) and Amon-ra St. Brown (avg $30mill per year)

And imo, we got a good deal with Aiyuk (avg 30mill per year), in comparison.

And to be honest, although Lamb (avg $34mill per year) makes spectacular catches... Brandon looks quicker on the field and has break away speed. Faster than Lamb. I see CeeDee Lamb get chased down more often than not, when he has a step or two on defenders.

And although it doesn't seem like a good idea paying two WR on your team lots of money, the good thing... if trying to make a Super Bowl run... if we lose a WR for a little bit of time, we have another top WR there to still... to keep defense honest when defending CMC or Kittle.

Amon-ra spends 60% of his snaps in the slot. I would take aiyuk over him all day

They didn't cave, the offer is three weeks old. If he didn't sign, then he's playing for 14m

all negotiations start low and high until they meet up n the middle

only bad team over

Aiyuk's agent called out Schefter's report almost immediately. Other insiders have explained what the 49ers have done the past month, which doesn't align with Schefter's report.

The 49ers and Aiyuk didn't meet in the middle. They met at Aiyuk's number. They caved. It's a pattern for Paraag. Now we just need him to cave to Trent.

I'm definitely not buying that offer was on the table for 3 weeks. Schefter also edited his tweet changing the date.

Did you see why he called him out? It's was a two day difference. Aiyuk tried to get more and Aiyuk finally caved

Brother, the negotiations didn't start on August 12th. The negotiations started more than a year ago. You are coping thinking the 49ers didn't cave and they "met in the middle"

But they didn't start last year lol. They started around March, when the season ended.

Also good to know you have access to the niners like that since you know for sure how the negotiation went. Can you let us know how things are coming along with TW?
If aiyuk got exactly what he wanted, he'd have signed the deal on August 13th

If the niners got exactly what they wanted, aiyuk would've signed the offer from March

It's not difficult to see both sides compromised. To what degree who knows or cares
Yuk, Debo, and Kyle in the white suit at a Rick Ross party last night.

He's been eligible for an extension since the end of the 2022 season. They picked up his fifth year option in April 2023. Once the 2023 season started, any extension negotiated would have started in 2024. March is when they made their last offer of the spring. Even if the negotiations began in March 2024, that is still before August 12th, driving my point 49ers came up to Aiyuk's number. They weren't offering 29M or 30M back in March. The team caving isn't always a bad thing. Had they caved earlier, Aiyuk would have been signed for less (he really thought they would have been able to get the deal done at 26-27M) and he would have been in camp.

Trent Williams wants guaranteed cash and a bump in pay. The 49ers want a commitment from him to play more seasons to soften the dead money on the back end of a reworked deal. The two sides are at an impasse. Getting this deal done would get Trent a bunch of cash up front the next two or three years. The 49ers would gain cap space for the next 2-3 years, allowing them to keep the core of the team together through 2027. A Purdy extension next year wouldn't have cap hits north of 60M until 2028.

Ppersonally, I think it's a typical negotiating tactic.

Most teams/players don't like doing negotiations during the season. Our FO mostly handles negotiations during the offseason.

Teams in general want to negotiate quickly and get the player ready for TC and other offseason activities.

It's the players/agents that don't want to sign fast especially if a big pay day is involved. Unless the pay is that crazy, the player/agent want to draw it out as much as possible. They want the "dominoes" to fall so they can negotiate better.

In most cases "meet in the middle" happens. Of course we paid a bit more than we wanted, but that goes for every team that isn't a cheap ass and cares about winning.

The TW part was tongue in cheek comment, since you obviously have no idea what's going on behind the scenes and are passing your opinion of as a fact.

If 49ers caved, BA signs 8.12. he didn't sign because he wanted more and eventually caved

BA even walked out the room, then came back and signed
