Just wondering why he would trust Aiyuk. I'm not knocking him but he hasn't done anything in a game that would make a QB trust him. If he only gets one or two catches or none at all then who will we blame; Jimmy or Aiyuk?

Supposedly Aiyuk had good rapport with Jimmy in TC. But TC reports also said that ST looked good so take it with a grain of salt.

There were times the 49ers were in 22 personnel on Sunday and it's important that the lone WR on the field is a threat to win 1v1. I don't think defenses fear Pettis or Bourne as the lone WR on the field. I hope Aiyuk can help here.

i feel bad for pettis though, he was open all game and jimmy was like f**k nah

I dont. Pettis has had his chances.

What chances? The 1 uncatchable target? Let's be real... He had a good rookie year, and a sucky sophomore year. He obviously made the most of his opportunities in TC, considering Shanahan's dramatic change of heart. I was ready to give up on him myself, but thought if others can turn it around in year 3, maybe he could too?

At the end of the day Week 1 is WAY too soon to say anything definitive either way.

Man, the grocery long list of speed X's Kyle tried to get. Blows.

Those guys can all be named with one and a half hands. The 49ers played a team on Sunday that had two of them. That's a tall order for a rookie picked at the back end of the first....

I guess ALL OF LAST YEAR doesnt count as a chance?

Literally had to spend an extra draft pick on a one year rental because of that.

Instant trust. According to MM, they had instant chemistry and JG kept feeding him everything to the point MM said it was the best he's ever seen from a rookie WR.

Now to your point, can this translate to an actual game? Stay tuned...

I'm not expecting him to be like those guys that we can count on 1.5 hands, agree that's a tall order. Maybe start off with being better than Pettis and Bourne. Yeah I know he's a rookie in his first game, but he has a nice skillset that could already make him better than Pettis/Bourne.

So last year was all he got? We're not in 2019 anymore. Pettis is still here, so obviously he hasn't had all his chances yet. Like I said, he sucked last year. He was starting on Sunday and was open on numerous plays. What else can he do if Jimmy isn't delivering the ball?

Ehh, I definitely wouldn't call Jeudy and CeeDee's first games "great." Jeudy is nasty with his releases, but he also does too much dancing at times. It eats up precious seconds and can throw off the timing on a throw. It could become problematic on certain down and distances where you need a WR to quickly separate. Pettis has this exact issue.

Agree -- as does Trent Taylor, and according to Kyle, that's what screwed up the play on 4th down to end the game.

This is a double-edged sword. There are going be times where it's the bane of a play.

why is everyone crowning him after one play. we all knew he has great get off from line of scrimmage. he also had 2 big drops in that game. let's wait and see what aiyuk does.

ok in 2018,...at least 7 drops in 2019. He's been slipping in that department,...so we will see how that goes at the NFL level w/2 so far. Like TO you can live with the drops if he can make big plays.

Give Aiyuk a couple of jet sweeps early on to get him involved.
WR is like a slot machine around here. Gotta hit on one of these don't we?

I hope Jimmy gets his confidence back and slings to this dude and makes all our worries go away.
Please b ready
