But an unnecessary one that highlights a remaining problem in society.
LE is allowed, by law, to investigate anything they deem as suspicious. I am positive that you have been pulled over in the past. I have been pulled over for suspicious activity (driving through an area, late at night, where there was active prostitution). I did not argue. I answered every question honestly. I complied with every order or request the officer made. No beef. No back talk. No underhanded comments. I did not say or do anything stupid. There was no ticket.
Aiyuk is periously close to playing himself right off the 49ers roster. That stop should not have been a news item. It is now. Whether he likes it or not.
I'm sorry…what?
I have never been pulled over because they suspected I could not afford the vehicle. Not once. Ever. I have never been pulled over with temp tags. Ever. I am from the South, dude. Trust me, racial profiling exists there and elsewhere. Now, if Aiyuk did something egregious, excessive speeding, reckless driving, public endangerment, or driving on sidewalks like it is GTA, I get it. But, from all I have seen, he got yoked because he had temp tags and apparently the officer thought he stole his whip.
Also, as a white male, I have never been told/coached by family how to behave when being pulled over by a police officer. I am courteous to the police because I am a courteous motherf**ker. And in my not so distant past, I helped educate some young folks in college who went on to join law enforcement. I have no problem with a legitimate stop. But over policing? Yeah, everyone should have a problem with that. Because we are blurring that fine line between proaction and overaction. Meanwhile, as I said, I was never coached by my family or other white folks about how to behave during a traffic stop or any other encounter with the police. But young Black males, in particular, are. Because too often things go sideways. Hence, why Aiyuk recorded it. I have also never thought to record any traffic stop with the police. Perhaps, I should. But it is not the first thing that comes to mind.
You don't have to like it, but it makes it no less true then in American society Black folks, sometimes, get pulled over for being Black. Also, it is foolish to believe that him being pulled over being Black will lead to him leaving the Niners. If anything, it would be nice for the Niners to get behind their star wideout and show some support.
