Shanahan said that Aiyuk was the third option on the 49ers list at No. 13, and that's why the team moved up to get him in the first round.

Lynch and Shanahan said that Brandon Aiyuk was also on that list of the #49ers' six players at 13. They didn't think there was any scenario they could Kinlaw at 14 and then get another guy from that list. Very stoked they could get the trade up with Minnesota

The mock draft: Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com
The pick: WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State
The reasoning: "This could be the spot for Jordan Love. If the Packers pass on him, though, Aiyuk is a perfect fit in their offense."
Our breakdown: Jeremiah is right; Aiyuk really does look like a perfect fit with Matt LaFleur and the Packers offense. He wins in the right ways. His straight-line speed opens up vertical attacking opportunities, and he's arguably the best receiver in the class after the catch, with the ability to turn short completions into long touchdowns. He has the catch radius of a big receiver and the explosiveness of a little receiver, and he'll have early impact potential because he can do a lot with manufactured touches. Aiyuk needs refinement as a route runner, but all young receivers need development as they transition to the pro game. There's a reason Aiyuk has emerged as the mock draft favorite for the Packers. He checks all the boxes in terms of fit, talent and athleticism.
As I mentioned before, Greg Cosell brought up him being a great fit for the 49ers, Packers and Rams. He's really well suited for this style of offense.
I almost thought he was too much like what we have, so I thought we'd go with a bigger guy, but it's clear Shanahan loves receivers with strong hands and run like RBs.

If we are using software versioning rules, Aiyuk is Kyle's 1.0 and Pettis was the Beta.

Does this mean they had Kinlaw and Aiyuk as two of their 6 foundational players? Or is it that the top 3 on their board when #13 came included Kinlaw and Aiyuk?

Shanahan said the 49ers felt "very strongly from their intel over the past few months" that Aiyuk wasn't going to be available at 31.

Dude has 81 inch arms and a 40 inch vert. Don't need bigger guys when you have a radius like that. Plus with speed . Deebo is the physical guy and we got the speedy guy. Call em thunder and lightning!

Shanahan: "We added two guys here today that, without a doubt, are starting-caliber players who will make our team better, who are going to be contributors on their first contracts for a long time and that will really help us in free agency next year and the draft next year."
