Established? Can anyone here name a QB in the league that wouldn't be better with better pass protection?
This, it isn't that he would be better....they all would, it is that he has shown an increased proclivity to melting down with pressure. There are guys who simply lose their nerve to take the hits, even if we improve protection this is an offense that is going to ask you to take the hit to deliver the ball at times. You can mitigate it some by knowing where the pressure is and making small moves in the pocket, by being mobile enough to escape the pocket or by knowing where the pressure is coming from and taking advantage of the hole the free runner leaves behind. Jimmy is not proving capable of executing those mitigating moves regularly, he is losing his nerve to take the hit and his saving grace, a fast decision making process and lightning quick release actually take plays out of the book, as evidenced by not hitting the deep ball even when protection holds. He had all the potential in the world, that guy is still in there somewhere, but how many guys who lose it end up getting it back later? Very, Very few. It is time to move on, he may find success elsewhere behind a truly great pass pro line, but we need a guy who takes advantage of what this offense does best and minimizes its weaknesses, Jimmy increasingly is doing the opposite, at least enough to say that his high dollar contract is holding the team back from realizing its max potential.
