You gotta understand it's not just a "few players" it's over 30 guys. They might have enough cash to possibly resign Trent Williams and that's about it. What about not having a single CB? what about Juice? what about RG/C? what about SS? What about EDGE? What about depth in general (we clearly need it)? What about improving at positions that we're currently having problems with? Moving Jimmy frees up around $50M in cap space in 2021/2022. That's a lot of cash.
We all loved 2019, we were excited and almost took it all the way...if we could draft a rookie QB, keep Jimmy, AND have a roster as good as 2019 I think everyone would be down for that...reality is COVID f**ked the cap space. Reality is that's not possible. Tough decisions will have to be made. Matt Miacco has eluded to this as well.
Good post NY!
Totally Agree . . . I knew there were a lot of players hitting free agency., but, I just looked and damn, so many more than I thought.
OL: Williams,Grasu, Garland & Compton
RB: Coleman, McKinnon, Juice & Wilson
WR: Bourne & Taylor
DL: Thomas, Blair, Hyder, Jordan, Willis & Jones
LB: Alonso & Walker
DB: Sherman, Tartt, Williams, Verett, Spoon, Johnson, Taylor & Cyprien
. . . option on Gould and about a dozen of RFA's.
Even if you'll be glad some are gone, they have to be replaced by somebody. Better players need more money.
