the read i get.. but i meant to say if it was really an option to go to. Sure he can look towards Aiyuks way, but JGs footwork was not going to allow a throw to go that way. From the start of the drop back to the ending up in that wide stance plant. I don't think he was ever thinking deep.

He needed to keep his feet under him so he can step up into the throw when needed or move in the pocket to extend the play

I don't know about footwork stuff. I butted in when someone posted a gif of the play of Aiyuk getting open deep vs MIA, then someone else suggested that there was no time to look Aiyuk's way because there was no time to get to the third/fourth read. I butted in and said Aiyuk is the first read of the progression. If you think Jimmy's footwork didn't allow him to throw it to Aiyuk, then that's on Jimmy.
Not debating anyones opinion.. just an observation i see

The wide stance JG took, would make it an all arm deep throw which most of us know he's not great at. He had time to go deep but with the way he ended up in that drop back looks like he was never going to go towards Aiyuk. looks like he was setting himself up for his patented quick short throw

Jimmy always takes a wide stance...That's his natural throwing platform.

This isn't about trust between the QB and the WR, this is about a QB not trusting himself to make the throw aka lack of confidence.

and is why he throws short more often

Jesus man...how did you stretch so far to get that one?

I simply brought up the s**ttiest WR I could think of to show you don't just have QBs throw to 1 on 1 looks regardless who's out there.

I wasn't even talking specifically about Jimmy or Aiyuk, you need to relax on the anti Jimmy sh*t. I think we all understand where you stand.

If you want to talk specifically about that play(which once again wasn't what I was doing) fine...

Not sure how you're getting that Jimmy was looking right at him when Aiyuk actually beat his man. Jimmy obviously made the decision to throw to the guy he's more comfortable with in Bourne and makes an easier throw doing it.

Now if we want a QB who will take the bigger throw that's fine. I agree. But let's not act like Jimmy saw him getting open and didn't throw it. The timing wasn't the way you describe.

Jimmy had a decision whether to trust that Aiyuk can get the separation and trust himself to put the ball where he can get it. He didn't trust one of those things and it's speculation by us which one was the issue. I think we can agree we've seen him make those throws to Kittle or even Bourne before.

Why bring up something so extreme in this scenario? I'm pretty sure I've seen Lamb get some 1 on 1 outside throws this yr. Same with Jeudy...Sounds a bit on par compared to throwing out one of SF's worst WR picks in a very long time lol.

You need to relax with the Jimmy excuse s**t as well...I think WE ALL know where you stand too.

I mean that's what this convo was about...this play in particular. THL explained the play for you. First read was Aiuyk. 1 on 1 with no safety help...that's advantage WR. Jimmy was looking right over there as soon as the ball was hiked and felt more comfortable throwing it to a WR that was completely covered...he threw it behind him and was lucky that s**t wasn't intercepted. The time was there without question. Good QBs throw with anticipation/throw their WRs open, In the NFL that's open IMO.

IF Jimmy can't see or make that play what the f**k are we doing here? He shouldn't have played if he was physically unable to make that throw. I mean did he not attempt a pass 20 yards downfield that game? I don't remember.

It's okay to say he made a poor read...it happens to every QB. You don't have to defend everything.

They're trying to help us get a higher draft pick to get a QB.

Dude...you either can't follow what I'm saying or you're trying to find any post to trash Jimmy on.

I literally told you why I brought up AJ Jenkins. Worst WR I could think of. The point had nothing to do with Jimmy, nothing to do with Aiyuk.

Simple point of 1 on 1 shouldn't be automatic attempt by the QB because who the WR matters.

If you disagree with that then we'll chat in another thread cuz I don't know what to say to you otherwise.

And no as I said AGAIN above, it was about the discussion of having trust with a WR from a QB. Thl was talking about that as well. Despite what you may think it's not all a way to make excuses for Jimmy.

That's a terrible take IMO.

Trust is absolutely a thing with QBs and it has nothing to do with poor QB play.

If the QB doesn't trust the WR to be on the same page as him then he's less likely to throw him the ball. Tom Brady is certainly not a poor QB guy and for years he favored the guys he knew would be where he expected them. It's why he typically didn't do well with rookies or young WRs until they proved themselves.

Agree and disagree to a point...a QB should know the read/coverage without question. Like THL stated Aiyuk was the 1st read and the play call was perfect.

Jimmy has to trust himself that he can make that throw. Instead he forces it to Bourne (think that's who it is) imo that's a much more dangerous throw then making an attempt to Aiyuk on the outside.

Yes trust is a factor...seems like he doesn't even trust himself to make that throw though

what thl alluded to was Jimmy's trust in Aiyuk.. not trust in his own ability.

no idea how or why you spun it like that.

From there is becomes a matter of trust whether Jimmy thinks Aiyuk can beat his man. What this play shows is Jimmy thinking that Aiyuk won't beat his man.

jimmy has always had a gun slinger mentality. which we've always agreed on. of course he trusts HIMSELF.

tunnel-vision posting. gets really silly after a while with him.

Amazingly simple:

1) A QB not trusting his WR is an excuse for not throwing a WR the ball while open.

2) A QB not trusting himself is an excuse for not throwing a WR the ball while open.

3) Both are 100% plausible given the QB we are discussing.

Niners can't get Jimmy, Deebo and Aiyuk on the field at the same time if their life depended on it.

Can't even get Jimmy to stay on the field for more than half of his career
