Kittle was a 5th

He's an exception. That doesn't happen often. You're acting like it's a fact that there's excellent starters in this draft in the 5th round. Yes it's a deep WR class but that's still only about 10 players that are worthy of going in the top 2 rounds.

Dre Greenlaw

Yes, we all know there have been picks in the later rounds that turn out to be good players. We needed to add top end talent, not build depth. Aiyuk is rated higher coming out of college than Sanders any of our current wide receivers.

So, there's a lot of things that go into that. That is why he probably wasn't considered to go before 13 for most people, but just watching him, the guy, what he's put on tape this year at Arizona state and getting to meet the person, everything he did there, he was more than a viable option there at 13. And the fact that we were able to get him late, I can't, I feel very fortunate and I'm very happy for the Niners today - KS

Imagine Aiyuk going at 13th. This Zone would hella implode lol

Remember when people lament the abilities of Dante Pettis in a Deebo body and mind...I think that's Aiyuk

He's 5'11. He ran a 4.5. Bleacher Report says he has the catch radius of a TRex. WR8 on many boards.

Are we talking about the same guy? Does Kyle have time to watch AL22 play by play.

Whoever wrote that bleacher report article has never watched him play. Catch radius of a T-Rex? He's got an insanely long wingspan and catch radius.

"Crap they took the WR we wanted to help Rodgers, better take Rodgers' replacement now". That doesn't make sense. GB was in love with Love.

The best guess I have is they thought MIA (sitting at #26) was going to pick Aiyuk to pair with Tua, so the 49ers felt they had to get in front of MIA. Of the teams drafting before #31 (49ers original pick), I don't think SEA, BAL, TEN were selecting a WR (they have good young WRs). It had to MIA imo.

That was the thinking at the time. No one had Green Bay taking a QB. A lot of people had them going WR. The Ravens were also reported to be wanting a WR in the 1st.
Really like this kid. I think he's going to be a heck of a player and perfect compliment to Deebo

Yeah... Quick Google search shows hes got the longest wingspan of a player under 6 feet in NFL history.

Lmao catch radius of a Trex
Since when is BR even credible? The dude has an amazing catch radius. 40 very, LONG arms and huge hands. He ran a 4.5 while dealing with injury at the combine.

Isn't that what they did? Not sure of your point

I was a little bit surprised they would go WR with their second pick in the draft for the third time in a row after Pettis and Samuel.
And FWIW, Peter King said yesterday that when he went to the training camp, the best offensive player on the field for him was Jalen Hurd.
So the Aiyuk draft in a way worries me a little bit. What does that say about Hurd´s recovery?
I guess I should take it more as Aiyuk is the E-Man replacement.
The player is good, don´t get me wrong. I way prefer him than Denzel Mims for example and he´s a super fit in Kyle´ s offense.
I more than happy with him and Kinlaw. Two exciting players.

That being said Kyle saying that Aiyuk is his number one receiver with Ceedee is just so funny. I mean Kyle come on.^^

The thinking here is that the Pack would have taken Aiyuk. But who the hell knows if that's true given their ultimate selection of Love.

I don't think the Packers were taking Aiyuk. If that was true, then we're implying the Packers were sitting at #30, Aiyuk gets drafted at #25, then the Packers scramble to move up (to #26) to pick Rodgers' successor.

Alternate possibility:

The 49ers had a list of six impact players and moved up to grab the last available one on their list when the opportunity presented itself. Packers could have easily been in the same boat. Aiyuk and Love could have been the remaining ones available on a Packers list of future stars, and when Aikyuk went, they moved up to pick up the last one on their list.

Note: I'm not positive Aiyuk was the only one left at that time on the 49ers list, but seems reasonable to infer from Kyle's comments.
