There have been a ton of high-profile players throughout history who slumped in year 2 and then became pro-bowlers in year 3 and beyond. We all know what this guy can do.
He had a slump over the first 5-6 games, but since then his average per game receiving yards would be enough for about 1200 yards receiving.
Aiyuk has been open quite a bit when he is playing I believe. So the route running is there.
The two issues I see are:
1) Jimmy seems to throw high to Aiyuk a ton. Not sure why this is but it has been a running theme between these two. Routine catches becoming difficult are not fun for anyone.
2) Aiyuk has had his share of drops.
But overall I see a guy playing well and getting open. Not sure what the early season issues were since Kyle simply wouldn't put the guy on the field. But right now I see a guy playing good enough to help influence games.
The overthrow by Jimmy early in the game Sunday, has to stop, I hope Trey doesn't do that when he takes over, cause that was on the QB not Aiyuk. I think the issue early is he didn't come in in good shape to TC, he wasn't looking good, had to have something light a fire under his ass, so when Lynch said what he said, it helped, cause Aiyuk has balled out since then, yes he has some drop issues, but most part, he's sure handed.
