Def, I was little shocked last year hearing he was on the dog house but glad to see him bounce back.
I actually think it's quite common around the league for guys that have some success in their rookie year. They come back thinking "they made it" and maybe don't work as hard or whatever the case may be; it's one reason why we always hear about that sophomore slump. In hindsight it seems as though Kyle recognized it early and while we were mad when it was going on; whatever he and our staff did seems to have worked and prevented him from continuing in that downward trajectory. It was well known how much Kyle freaking loved Aiyuk his draft year and I do also believe we see his best season yet coming up!!
Seems like Kyle uses the Doghouse to test the way a player responds and whether they need to put more draft capital in early round receivers. Pettis... fell flat, Aiyuk responded and now knows what it takes to be a starter. No one was drafted or signed to take over WR1 or WR2, with Pettis welp thats what led to Aiyuk.
Deebo too. The door was open to that dog house but he never made it inside but IIRC, he talked about how Kyle was on his ass too.
Kyle is a former WR so he probably subconsciously expects more and can detail why and how it should be done like no other position.
Do you think WR's need more loving and and attention than other positions? I'd like to believe we live in a world where everyone is an adult at that age, but that position brings out the worst in people sometimes.
Haha. Yeah, who knows. I'd love to read some sports psychologist of the connection of the diva personality and receivers.
