I remember telling people that although Ruggs was fast, he wasn't a good YAC player (people said I was crazy), which is the only type of player that succeeded in our offense at the time. I think the only WR I liked more was Ceedee. And it's certainly debatable which one is better now.

I thought Mims was garbage.

Good call. To be fair, I was really high on Jalen Hurd too. I actually predicted he would be our pick to my group chat with 49ers fans. Oh well.

You probably would've been right about Hurd if he didn't fall apart.

One thing I remember hating about Mims is that he couldn't separate. Dude couldn't create any space against man coverage without pushing off.

He was my draft crush that year. Thought it was crazy then when people claimed he couldn't beat man to man coverage or whatever during the draft process.

Nice call Krizay GB was about to take him too

I wanted Lamb, then Ruggs because I thought Kyle could put him in amazing situations to use his speed.

I loved Aiyuk out of college too, but I didn't think he was a realistic option for us because I assumed we weren't going to blow the 14th overall pick on a useless lineman that should never have been drafted to begin with.

Man they could've drafted McLaurin instead of Jalen Hurd

You just triggered Niners99 so badly.

Yup Lamb or Wirfs were the only two options there. You couldn't lose. That said, it was a super deep draft for WR's that year so felt you could get a R1 WR in R2+.
Earning his money next year by having the consistent hands to jump start the offense. He's been better lately than earlier in the season.

Sadly I think if someone has to go it will need to be deebo because ayuik is the better receiver. He's also more clutch at coming up with plays to start the offense and deliver when the pass is there.

He's cleaned the drops up to props to him from earlier.

Between Yuk and Debo which skillet is easier to replace? They would be Yuk. Debo is so unique and his style with our offense works really well with CMC as the other interchangeable offensive weapon.
73 yards away from consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.

We wanted wirfs. And then we found it we got Trent so it was like ohhh ok. I loved the Aiyuk trade up.

You make a valid point but after watching closely at what Kyle is doing with Aiyuk in the PHI game, it is more clear to me how important Aiyuk is to this offense. I agree Deebo has the more unique skillset when you consider all NFL players. I can make an argument as to why, even if Deebo is the player more difficult to replace because of his unique skillset, Aiyuk is the player with the more useful skillset, even if Aiyuk's skillset can be found more frequently around the league. Fact is, the 49ers currently only have one guy that can do what Aiyuk does.

What the 49ers are able to do with Aiyuk, a WR that can win 1on1s when placed on an island, opens up so much for the offense. The 49ers can go 4x1 with Aiyuk being the '1', all alone on his side of the field. This puts split safety defenses in a bind (Quarters) because putting 4 route runners to one side of the formation floods a split safety zone coverage. If that '1' isn't a threat to win, then this method of attacking Quarters falls apart. Aiyuk is that proven 'X' split end wide receiver that demands safety help or else he's going to win that 1 on 1. In the PHI game, the 49ers would go 4x1 and PHI would stay in zone but shift to single high. (I still need to watch more to be sure of this).

The whole point of using split safety coverages is to get 3 defenders versus 2 WRs to one side of the field, and 4v3 to the other side. When an offense goes 4x1, this defense doesn't work. But in order for an offense to effectively go 4x1, that Split End (Aiyuk) needs to win.

I hope jonnydel can cut up some of the 4x1 sets the 49ers used.

BA would have more yards in a spread deep offense. (Bills etc)

but he wouldnt be on a contender.

hope he is happy with his role.

he is a straight stud - always can rely on him and I think he and Purdy have a magical connection - they seem to be able to communicate telepathically on the field.
