Am I wrong that he's under contract for one more year and if need be, he can be franchised? What's all the hubbub?

He deserves to get paid and if we aren't willing to do that we should trade him. It's only fair. Question is what can we get in return? Probably a mid to low 1st round pick.

You don't want to have to franchise him. You want to get his deal down now so they can mainpulate his numbers better for the future. It's why you gets deal done sooner rather than later.

One offseason too late with Aiyuk. Bosa situation hurt our chances to retain Aiyuk at a better cost.

I feel like he knows the struggle it will be to get a deal here based on precedent, but if that's the case then maybe both sides should surprise and get a deal done asap this time? Might be the best medicine for everyone and the team?

One thing I don't like is that we never seem to get ahead of deals. They never extend guys early and always wait until the deal is up.

He still has 1 more year on his deal. I wouldn't extend a player 2 years early unless it is a QB.
Say it was Greenlaw last season with 2 years left and we extend him, they take on more risk and it sucks, but he just tore his Achilles and it would have been a bad deal. That was just an example of what could happen. You always try and mitigate risk and waiting until the player is 1 year away from free agency does some of that.

Good example. Dre may not return after next year and you don't know how he'll recover, so I'd frankly give Aziz a 3 year deal to start next to Warner going forward.

Did BA really ask for a trade? Was that story just BS? What's the 411 on this?

But he is under contract for one more year, correct? And the FO says they will begin discussing his contract / future with the team this offseason. So why the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands?

Based on his friends twitter post, if he's unhappy enough he can hold out and force a trade

I may be wrong but i think there's rules about how early you can extend while on a rookie deal so they may have had no choice but to enact his 5th year knowing they would negotiate this offseason.
I just think it would be good for the franchise to see they came to an agreement sometime next month.
This is a business and I am sure his agent will drag it along. But tbh as a player we saw how it affected Bosa and others when they lose that offseason prep. They admit it.... I would be telling me agent I want the best deal possible in the next 3 months etc.

I wonder why that friend said Vegas. Maybe a black head coach like AP raider would fit better for BA. Also less traffic?

Just curious, how many players in recent memory have forced a team to trade them?
