Aiyuk is a 4.45 guy - he was hurt when he ran his 4.5 forty.
Maybe Jerry can take him to run The Hill.
No one truly thinks he's a 4.5 guy. Film doesn't show that at all...just like no one thinks Jalen Reagor is actually a 4.47 guy (much faster). Do people actually think Claypool plays at a 4.42? Film doesn't show that at all.

IMO I'd say Ayiuk is a low 4.4 guy. He's just as fast as Sanders (also 4.4 guy)....4.3 might be pushing it though.

I know comps are dumb, but one that I keep seeing is DJ Moore and I think that's pretty on pt.

Not much discernable difference between a 4.5 flat and low 4.4s.

If you yourself acknowledge that the film doesnt show a 4.5 flat "at all".... then you've already suggested he's more like in the 4.7s or slower... or in the 4.3s if not faster.

k
Wait...people still think Aiyuk is a 4.5 guy?
Didn't Lynch say they believe hes a 4.3 guy?

agree. 4.4 or 4.5 is the same thing basically. it comes down to your technique during the 40 yard dash. It's not like a WR starts his stance with his hand in the ground then starts running lol. 4.3 is where you really see a difference in speed though.

FWIW,...The Big 12, Big 10, and SEC all split even for the 3 NFL All-Rookie WRs last season. The defenses you might see as trash didn't really deter Marquise Brown. He was already South Florida-tested and true. Wouldn't put so much stock in the conferences without more context regarding the players.

Well he would've been a much better player if he had a quarterback that can throw an accurate fall. So we should just be grateful that he had garbage at quarterback which more than evens out his production against bad defenses

I've posted this before, but once Aiyuc gets the ball in his hands a 4th gear kicks in and that kid just flat outruns whoever is near him. Only guy i can think of who had that was GOAT Jerry Rice. Both of their 40s aren't overwhelming but put a football in their hands and adios. That ability came thru on virtually any clip i see on Aiyuc.

If he is as good as his film this will be one fun filled yr. Also his fakes on DBs are the best i have seen, well...since Jerry. He can get DBs so twisted up that you can just see #80 when he did the same thing.

I follow the Longhorns so i don't see much PAC 12 football. But when I first started looking at his films it was hard not to see the resemblance to my favorite of all time.

oh wow...really? nobody else since Rice?

there's some WRs already outrunning everybody else, guys like Hill, Hollywood Brown, hell, Goodwin was doing in that 2 years ago. DJ Moore is another guy. And these are just some current guys. I think Aiyuk is a good a player, but he's not doing anything that other former or WRs have done.

Those guys all have 40 times under 4.5. You'd expect them to run away from defenders. Pretty sure he's talking about guys that aren't sub 4.5 speedsters

charlieSheen is right, I was thinking of guys who aren't just burners...like Tyrek, for example.

I never saw Jerry Rice just blister a 40. But give him a football and he was adios. Aiyuc seems to have that same innate ability, at least on tape. If he brings that to the field, he sure is going to have a ton of fans...and i'll be one.

People use 40 time as be all end all which is the wrong way to scout speed. The 40 time is basically a track event that requires a different technique than running in nfl that players specifically have to practice.

The 40 time should be used only if the tape is ?. The 40 time shouldn't be used to overwrite game tape.

a 4.4 and a 4.5 are not the same thing lol.

Ayiuk's 40 time put him in the 55th percentile, a 4.4 flat puts you in the 87th percentile among NFL WRs.

If you're gonna bring up technique and how to properly run a 40, then we shouldn't be talking about a football players 40 time to begin with

It's clear that a core injury hurt his 40 time. He's fast.

I think a 4.5 and a 4.4 are the same thing relative to actual effectiveness on the field. Olympic tracks stars can run a tenth or two tenths of a second on different days or different heats.

We make too much a big deal on 40 times. TE's that run 4.6 catch a ball on stride and in space can take it to the house. Watching the tape on Aiyuk, he is extremely fluid and explosive with the ball in his hands.
