Although we are not going to abandon our run game, I have a feeling we're going to pass more this year. If I referenced Matt Ryan's second season improvement under Coach KS tutelage, I expected Jimmy Garoppolo to improve significantly in his second complete season. Also last year Deebo almost reached the 1k receiving plateau for WR's. If Sanders started from the beginning of the season, no doubt he would have reached that. Kittle was also almost right there. My point is it's not impossible to have 3 players in our team to each have 1000 receiving yards. Most of the players are already in their 3rd season with Shanahan's playbook. I know a lot needs to click with Aiyuk though. If he has Deebo's mental toughness, plus his physical acumen, and once he has the grasp of Shanahan's playbook, Aiyuk has a chance to accomplish this feat. Shanahan, like what he did to Deebo, may unleash Aiyuk too.Originally posted by mayo49:Originally posted by FredFlintstone:Originally posted by 49ers808:Originally posted by mayo49:Originally posted by genus49:Originally posted by mayo49:Originally posted by NYniner85:Originally posted by TheGore49er:agree. 4.4 or 4.5 is the same thing basically. it comes down to your technique during the 40 yard dash. a 4.4 and a 4.5 are not the same thing lol.
Ayiuk's 40 time put him in the 55th percentile, a 4.4 flat puts you in the 87th percentile among NFL WRs.
If you're gonna bring up technique and how to properly run a 40, then we shouldn't be talking about a football players 40 time to begin with
It's clear that a core injury hurt his 40 time. He's fast.
Would like to know what he runs now that he's healthy. I think he's a 4.3 guy.
It's nice to have the combine numbers to make projections based on others but it is what it is.
OBJ is one of the best deep ball guys in the NFL when healthy. He ran 4.43 healthy. Aiyuk ran 4.5 with a core injury(and 7 lbs heavier). Can't say they're the same speed given the discrepancy there as we can't say 100% Aiyuk matches or tops OBJ had he been healthy and then there's game speed.
On tape Aiyuk is fast enough. We'll see how he does but if Kyle likes what he sees, I'm good with it. And if he comes anywhere close to Odell's production minus the headaches...we've got ourselves a steal.
He's got the speed - I'm not worried about that, I think he'll match OBJ's production, no doubt.
You talking current OBJ production right? Cause first couple seasons OBJ production was NFL history good, highly doubt he matches that. In fact I guarantee he won't match that lol.
even if hes as good as OBJ early on of course he wont match those numbers. Kyle likes to run the ball and his system wont be easy to get right off the bat
Yeah, your probably right. He simply won't get enough balls thrown his way. I guess there goes the ROY award.

Yeah, I think Shanny unleases Aiyuk - like you said just like he did with Deebo.

Oh no doubt we're going to pass more this year and Jimmy will have a lot on his plate.

So I take it your point of this is Aiyuk's 40 time doesn't really even matter. Hope I'm correct. I mean it matters somewhat but not in the context of Shanahan's offense. His true 40 time is probably in the 4.4 range so it's plenty fast enough but his football speed and what he does after the catch is the main thing. He can still be dangerous as hell without running a sub 4.4. because he fits their scheme the best. Niners from what I can tell had Lamb rated the highest with BA just a hair below that. Shanny couldn't give a s**t who the fastest receiver was.

Well pass more if we have fewer loss of possession outcomes on pass plays. That means more mature reads by jimmy better ball security and fewer situations where jimmy gets popped. So the line really could use an upgrade.
Then we will have more attempts.

No chance. He'll most likely be behind Kittle, Deebo, Arby's and if Kyle has big plans for the F, Hurd and Taylor are going to eat into his targets as well. I'm guessing 5 targets a game would be a huge year for him.

Aiyuk fit his 5'11 profile much better.

The only gaping hole we didn't address in the draft -- iol. Good god.
But we did address our needs for #4 tight end.
Pret-ty shrewd.

I know drafting a blocking TE in the late 6th rd is horrible, they could have gotten a real talent at IOL lol
Oh and let's pretend like they didn't draft OL before that pick

My post was only meant to highlight the extremely small difference between two times that people want to call a big deal. Times do matter as you're looking for extreme cases, and you probably have a range of times that you expect a guy to finish in. Outside of that, you may have some questions. Doesn't fully translate to being in pads at all, which is foolishly being suggested here.
Right now with our other 1st rounder people are heavily worried about a damn knee as if it's not our staff's job to have already done that homework,...lol. In this one people get concerned with a 4.50 while injured ....yet in the low 4.4's is "blazing." Context is everything.

My pt has been there is actually a difference between a 4.5 flat and a 4.4 flat when looking at the position.
55th percentile in the NFL if you run a 4.5 87th percentile if you run a 4.4 flat. It's the NFL all these dudes are top end athletes, even being a 10th of a second faster then the other guy is a big deal.
I'll bet money if he was 100% he would have been closer to that 4.4 time.
