When the brain trust says they would take aiyuk 13, it sounds deranged frankly.

What's the purpose of saying stuff like that. IT reinforces the argument other fans have that our FO is disconnected and naive.

Quite frankly IT reinforces that those fans you speak of are ALWAYS disconnected and don't know as much as they think.

This front office has completely turned around this team in 3 years and got us to the Super Bowl. We are one of the most talented teams in the league from top to bottom.

Our FO created one of the best rosters in the league after only 3 yrs, we all agree they stepped into a dogs**t roster.

Whether we like certain moves or not, overall they've done a good job.

yes.

Were talking about the current regime. Well see how this years class pans out.

of course we are talking about the current regime. What do you mean?

I didnt understand the "outside of 2017" comment. Did you mean just 2018 2019?

Yes

About the only people I've seen who have a real problem with the 49ers FO when it comes to drafting are Cohn and other media types who like to throw bombs, and 49ers fans who are pissed that Lynch and company don't validate their player analysis.

The suggestion that there is some common feeling that Lynch and Co. are amateurish and naive in drafting seems kind of like wishful thinking.

We've had some unusual reaches that haven't worked out. We've had selections that dont seem to address positions of need that are consistent with priority of need. It seems like decision makers always speak about their hot take and dont take into account the scouted analysis based on snap by snap all22 screen time.

What constitutes an unusual reach?

I'm pretty sure that reaches that don't work out are the only ones anyone has any issues with since if the player plays well nobody cares where most mock drafts had them going in.

However facts are despite that "scouted analysis" you talk about...especially since you're talking about all22 film which I'm pretty sure isn't readily available for most people at the end of the day NFL teams have access we do not have. They have inside sources and have a better idea of who likes whom and where each guy may go since they have access to behind the scenes info, health records and info from their coaches, teammates and etc.

The so called "reaches" have been Beathard, Pettis, Hurd, Wishnowsky and Aiyuk.

Hurd, Wish and Aiyuk are still up in the air.

Beathard has been a failure but he was the QB who Kyle wanted from that class. He was drafted to be the Kirk Cousins, someone who sits and learns and then has a chance to start. He was rushed out there when Hoyer sucked something fierce and got killed before he could develop. We also picked up Mullens as UDFA same class...so is that such a huge miss? Not to mention there was talk other teams liked Beathard and end of the day Kyle's love of Beathard got us George Kittle.

Pettis right now is the biggest question mark because we traded up for him in the 2nd round. Talent is there but his heart may not be in it. It's pretty clear Kyle has altered what he looks for in a WR as far as mental makeup goes after that pick and Dante at least for now is still on the roster and as for him being a reach GB was looking at him with their 2nd round pick and some people had him as the top WR in that class.

So end of the day "reach" is all relative. If they work out nobody cares.

Yes this is all reasonable. I also include as "indulgence" drafting #3 or #4 tight ends when other team needs are more prominent (not just this year with toleilo leaving).

But so far we have hit on contributors in spite of the allegations. That is true.

I don't really know what the role is of the scouts who spend hours and hours watching every single snap of a players college season, not just the highlights. Hopefully it's a significant influence in forming our list. Even when the conclusions contradict the impressions of a highlight package. What I am saying is that some of the statements that come out publicly, for whatever the motivation they are made, don't always seem consistent with that. Which in my opinion doesn't help the FO or the draftee in the long run.

Should mean he's pretty much recovered from the surgery

Yup.

We have like 10+ starters (or major contributors) Throughout the 2017-2019 drafts. Who do we have left on this roster from the Baalke days that start? 2 I think (Tarrt/Ward).

Like you said toss in FAs and trades. I don't see how you can proclaim this FO as being poor at putting a team together.

I also believe they won an award for best draft last yr (given to them at the combine this yr)

Yup indeed.

Forget the names, and just based on last years performances on the field, they drafted one game-wrecker, one game-changer, one gamer, a mere long-term starter, a borderline starter they couldn't keep, and at least one long-term backup.

How anyone can call that anything short of a successful draft is beyond me...unless they have unrealistic expectations.

This draft was an A. Those who disagree, fail to realize you can't have everyone you want because other teams get to pick too!

Yep, that was the main takeaway from this tweet. We all know he's fast, but it's great news that he's close to hitting his top speed already. He should be ready to rock whenever camp opens!
I'll say it again. Aiyuk has the speed and reach to catch that Jimmy G overthrow in the Super Bowl.

We have heard it many times, and it doesnt make any more sense now than it did the first time it was written.

He missed by 4 yards.
i really love how everyone is second guessing their initial assessment of the WR class this year now that Kyle picked Aiyuk. dude just blasted a 21mph top speed and did the same in college. Hes gonna be an open field monster in this offense. Especially with Kittle and Deebo out there drawing the safeties

It wasn't a speed issue. It was timing/chemistry/practice issue.

Two similar plays went to Sanders earlier this year, ironically for huge completions. Both of them Sanders had to slow up for the ball and you can say it was under thrown. Clearly Jimmy felt he couldn't make that mistake with two guys trailing Sanders and put it where he felt from prior throws Sanders could get to. He put too much on it. Live and learn.
