Two similar plays went to Sanders earlier this year, ironically for huge completions. Both of them Sanders had to slow up for the ball and you can say it was under thrown. Clearly Jimmy felt he couldn't make that mistake with two guys trailing Sanders and put it where he felt from prior throws Sanders could get to. He put too much on it. Live and learn.
Agreed that he was throwing into double coverage so he tried to lead him. Just overthrew it. I doubt Goodwin would catch up to that one though was the point. Not that it matters. If the receiver had that kind of speed the defenders may not bite and Jimmy would then instead check to Bourne.

It wasn't a speed issue. It was timing/chemistry/practice issue.

Excellent point. Nearly all QBs have the arm strength to throw 40 yards or more. It all comes down to timing and trajectory.

... not to mention, accuracy and nerves for the moment.
You can practice with a guy 3 hrs a day for 3 months and still not be an accurate QB.

Why is it so difficult to say it was a bad throw for some people? I dont get it.

It really wasnt though. They were playing and practicing together for over 100 straight days. Saying its a timing/chemistry issue is ridiculous, given the length of time they had been working together.

It makes no difference how much they practice it still comes down to timing. The QB has to deliver the ball on time and the receiver has to get to a spot on the field on time. Just because they practice doesn't mean the timing can't be off on a play. You see it with every team every week where a pass is a little behind or too far in front. People aren't robots where you program them and they perform the task exactly the same every time. Call it a bad throw if you want to but it's still a timing issue. Accuracy on a pass play requires timing and coordination between the QB and receiver.

But you have to consider the defense on the other side is trying to take everything away from you. The script is not going to be 100 percent on point most of the time.Originally posted by SteveWallacesHelmet:Originally posted by genus49:Originally posted by tjd808185:Originally posted by kdoggie:I'll say it again. On the play - Sanders didn't know the ball was going to him. He had to speed up, but it was too late - the ball was over his head already.

Question, do you think Aiyuk is gonna be basically red shirted because of the quarantine not giving him a chance to learn the offense?

If it makes no difference how much something is practiced, then everytime someone has used "chemistry" as an excuse for Jimmy or any QB is basically speaking nonsense. If you feel comfortable saying that the amount of reps is irrelevant, then chemistry is irrelevant too. And since no one would ever say chemistry is completely irrelevant, you cant possible conclude that it makes no difference how much something is practiced. Quite an odd statement to make IMO.
And I am not expecting people to be a robot. I know things dont go perfectly. I just dont think its too much to ask to throw a catchable ball when you have a receiver open for a TD. You can describe it as a timing issue all you want. But a timing issue is not a label that can absolve a bad throw. A bad throw is a bad throw, regardless of the reason.
