I'll say it again. Aiyuk has the speed and reach to catch that Jimmy G overthrow in the Super Bowl.
He missed by 4 yards.
It wasn't a speed issue. It was timing/chemistry/practice issue.
Two similar plays went to Sanders earlier this year, ironically for huge completions. Both of them Sanders had to slow up for the ball and you can say it was under thrown. Clearly Jimmy felt he couldn't make that mistake with two guys trailing Sanders and put it where he felt from prior throws Sanders could get to. He put too much on it. Live and learn.
Why is it so difficult to say it was a bad throw for some people? I dont get it.

Excellent point. Nearly all QBs have the arm strength to throw 40 yards or more. It all comes down to timing and trajectory.
It really wasnt though. They were playing and practicing together for over 100 straight days. Saying its a timing/chemistry issue is ridiculous, given the length of time they had been working together.

It was an overthrow based on the result.
If you think 100 days is enough to build chemistry with a receiver on throws like that there isn't much to this discussion.
Also pretending it was actually 100 days where they not only practiced together but practiced that type of route...seems like there's an agenda there for sure.
Those throws are low % for a reason. Timing is critical with those throws. Pointing out the fact that two similar throws to Sanders were made in the game where he had to slow up for them...it's pretty logic why Jimmy put more on that pass.

There is no agenda from me. This reads as a laundry list of excuses to me.
"He underthrew Sanders twice earlier in the season so he decided to put more on it his time." Well putting more on it resulted in an equally s**tty pass. And if he throws the same underthrown ball this time, maybe the result is better. An underthrown pass is easier to catch than an overthrown one. I cant believe that you are really going with this line of reasoning. It is absurd to think that in this exact moment, Jimmy was thinking about the 2 underthrown passes from earlier in the season.

An underthrown pass with 2 defenders trailing increases the odds the pass is picked off and you're b***hing about him not putting enough on it.
If I felt like wasting my time I could dig through this thread at the amount of times people claimed Jimmy wasn't accurate because he underthrew a WR and didn't let him run through the catch. Wouldn't shock me if you were one of those complaining about it.
Nothing I said was taking blame off Jimmy for missing the throw but your take that they should be perfectly in sync after 100 days of practice is completely ignorant.

Underthrowing a pass is preferred to overthrowing it. The odds of that underthrown pass being picked off is just as likely as a defensive pass interference.
Regardless, this entire conversation was sparked from a silly comment that Aiyuk catches that pass that Emmanuel couldnt. We can get back on topic. I am confident in Jimmy moving forward, but refuse to hide behind a chemistry issue label that people are using for his poor pass in the SB.

Call it a bad throw if you want to but it's still a timing issue. Accuracy on a pass play requires timing and coordination between the QB and receiver.
