It may be a little early to declare him a has been, but he's certainly not looking like the upgrade from Staley most were claiming him to be. Hopefully it's a mental thing and we'll be seeing a better Trent in the games to come. However, I read where he said he thought he had a good game? Say what? He needs to reevaluate and perhaps be a better role model for his linemates. They certainly don't need for him to be delusional. Own it, Trent!

First couple of games, he has looked good. Last 3, not so much. It could be a combination of old age and rust. He is not worth re-signing to a big deal.
Guys are getting under his pads every game now and if they have any sort of power he's getting bull-rushed just as bad as McG...
What I don't get is where is the guy who was supposedly handling Bosa in camp? If he was that dominant, was there something wrong with Bosa? Perplexing, to say the least.

Maybe Bosa tore his ACL back in training camp and didn't know.

Trent didn't handle Bosa. They went back and forth. Bosa beat him up pretty good on the first day of camp. Also, did you watch week 1 vs Chandler Jones? Trent kicked his ASS.

I don't know what's going with Trent Williams. Maybe he's hurt or something, but dude is clearly not himself. It looks more mental than physical to me but who knows. There are way too many mental mistakes happening. The shortened offseason/no preseason certainly didn't help him build chemistry with his new teammates.

Mental mistakes are happening across the entire Oline. This looks more and more like a coaching issue.
Trent has had a couple rough games but he's still a really good player. Comparing him to McGlinchey is downright offensive. Mcglinchey is mediocre on good days.

He'll get it together as he gets more comfortable.

How quickly people can't analyze every game. They just cherry pick games to prove their narrative. Fact is he was excellent the first 3 games and bad the last 2. I think he will be fine and playing at top 10 level at least pretty soon.

Of all our issues Trent isn't even registering for me as a concern.

Pretty alarming though of his play so far this season. Not really playing like a guy who wants to get paid.

I guess I'm more patient with him since he didn't play for a year and had not pre season or OTAs.

Those are indeed huge factors. I fully agree with you there. I just thought after 3 games he'd get his feet back.
What concerns me about him is that he is looking worse and worse as the season progresses. I would NOT re-sign him.
How much of this is OL coaching...or lack thereof?

It's probably about 50 percent. Coaching has been poor but talent evaluation hasn't been that great either. Williams haven't played since 2018 and is probably on the wrong side of 30, Tomlinson has never been a good pass protector, b***hburg cannot stay healthy, Brunskill never had too much experience as a RG (mostly TE in college, played RT in his senior year).
On the bright side his price tag has been coming down the past couple games. Maybe we will be able to afford to extend him after all. Unfortunately we would be extending him coming off a mediocre season not knowing if he can get beck to an elite level

It's a risk that I hope this team doesn't take. It's like buying a stock when the price drops; we don't know where the bottom is. It would be like catching a falling knife. And given his age, the chances of his skill diminishing is greater than him returning to an elite tackle again. That money would be better used to re-sign Juice, K. Williams and maybe DJ Jones, and roll over that unused cap to re-sign Warner, Greenlaw, and Bosa (if he can return to elite status) in the future.
