Hoping Staley sticks around for one more year! Maybe slide him over to LG. Would instantly gives us the best line in the league. Then throw in three receivers that we didn't have last year (hurd, Taylor, Aiyuk), our offense will be way better than last year. Also hoping shanny brings back Delanie walker on a modest deal

Trent Williams and the 49ers are expected to restructure the last year on his contract, per source. But Williams will report and will play for SF this season.

Will the niners receive a 3rd rd comp in 2021 for losing Sanders in free agency?

No, he was a LT his whole career. Not sure how I feel about this trade.
lol Trent isn't playing anything but LT. Believe that. Joe Staley has already said he will never play anywhere but LT, and he would retire before he'd play RT or be a backup. So this kind of signals his retirement.
I don't Remember Staley saying that.... He seems like the kind of team first kind of guy who would be willing to slide down if it helpes the team....

Shannahan coached at the Redskins and Trent respects him. Good move all around Trent Williams wants to be with a professional organization.
I think the Niners know this year will be odd with Covid 19, they are getting plug and play players because off season work will be at a minimum

I am stunned that Staley is retiring. It's an assumption that he waited to inform the organization, but it certainly seems like the most likely scenario right now. Wow.
You won't get a Trent Williams Type in the 5th or 3rd rounds.
I actually think we would have been stupid not to take Williams after watching our o-line in the super bowl.
we can get those picks back by trading back next year, may get the 5th back this year depending on the Goodwin trade options.
All of these are good points. But tackle was never the issue last year. Joe played well when healthy, as did Skule and Brunskill. The issue is guard.
Staley would be one of the quickest guards in the nfl right now. MM can also play G, in fact MM may be a better at G than T.

Joe has stated he will NOT play anything but LT. I'm telling ya he's gonna retire and this move indicates that

Edit" basically asking if this guarantees Staley is gone
Trade Goodwin and cut Or trade Coleman. That's 8 mil or so right there. Gonna only have 5-6 rooks to pay.

What mortgage? A 5th rounder for an all world LT.
And then the third is either just a small move down in the same round to get a 1 yr rental, or we lose the third altogether because we've signed the aforementioned all world LT to a contract extension... lolz...there's no mortgaging going on here
