49ers are already short on draft picks. We don't need to create another need, especially at a premiere position. And if they go with a rookie QB, it's imperative that blind side is locked down.
SO MUCH THIS.
If they are serious abot a SB next year he has to be re signed. And if they are serious about a young QB they need to protect him.

He could play better but he took a lot of time off so it's probably going to take this whole season to get him up to game speed. But yeah you don't give up a 3rd and not resign him when he is still pretty good.Originally posted by jdt84_2:Originally posted by Heroism:Andrew Whitworth is 38 years old and playing at a high level. If the 49ers end up with a losing season, I'm afraid that may really hurt the chances of re-signing Trent. He's probably sick of playing losing football, and thought he'd be playing on a winning team this season. If the team ends up trying to replace Jimmy, and having uncertainty at the most important position on the field, Trent may take his services elsewhere.

He's a rated tackle? Good. Let him walk, collect a 3rd round pick in 2022.

And how would the 49ers replace him with limited draft picks and limited cap space? Not to mention a plethora of players to resign and the cap projected to go down next season.
It's hilarious that people on here cry about the OL, yet those same people want to get rid of the best left tackle in the game.

He's a 10 year vet. The best compensatory pick he can fetch is a 5th rounder.

Every one knows the reason we're losing games is due to injury, only way Trent leaves is if some team offers him a contract too hard to pass up. This isn't some bad team that's rebuilding or a disfunctional organization like he dealt with in DC

Kwon's money and Solly off the books will make it a no brainer...
